Police Searching for Oregon Girls Find Remains

OREGON CITY, Ore. (Reuters) - Investigators said they discovered on Saturday what appears to be the remains of one person in a shed behind the home of the self-proclaimed suspect in the case of two teen-age girls who went missing from the same apartment complex last winter.

"We are sad to announce ... we discovered what appears to be human remains in an outbuilding behind the house," Gordon Hurias, chief of Oregon City police department, told reporters. "The remains have been turned over to the medical examiner"
He said what was found was the remains of one person and had not been identified.
"No charges have been filed at this time," Hurias said.
Investigators using cadaver-sniffing dogs had been searching the home of Ward Weaver all day after erecting a barbed wire chain-link fence around the property overnight.
Ward has told reporters he is a prime suspect in the case of the two 13-year-old girls -- Ashley Pond and Miranda Gaddis -- who disappeared two months apart in the rural community 20 miles south of Portland.
Hurias said the parents of the girls had been informed of the find. The families asked that news organizations respect their privacy, he added.
FBI ( news - web sites) special agent Charles Matthews said the investigators planned to remove a concrete slab behind the house. Press reports speculated that the concrete slab could contain human remains.
Weaver, who has denied any involvement in the disappearance of the two girls, is being held in the Clackamas County jail in lieu of $1 million bail on charges he raped his son's girlfriend on Aug. 13. He has pleaded not guilty to the rape charges and is scheduled for an October trial.
Weaver's rented home is just outside the entrance to the apartment complex where disappeared. Pond disappeared in January and Gaddis vanished in March, both before school.
The 13-year-olds were friends of Weaver's daughter and spent time in his home.
After Weaver's arrest for the rape of his son's girlfriend, his distraught son called 911 dispatchers and said his father admitted to killing the two girls, according to reports printed in the Portland Oregonian newspaper.

I don't get it. How can one boast that he's a key suspect in the girls' disappearance, but... oh... by the way, at the same time, I'm not guilty. Huh?
That slab was reportedly laid just after the girls' disappearances. They've known this for nearly a half year. Oregon is full of liberal judges. I expect him to die a natural death, considering Oregon (non) justice.
