Dedication and Duty Bound

Some people consider the choice of a military career strange. They find it hard to understand why someone who seems to be so normal in so many ways would choose to give himself or herself to a career that infringes on their family life, impedes their choice of where to live, what clothes to wear, and one that may send you into life threatening situations any number of times during that chosen career. Yes, it is indeed a choice that none but the best or those with a sense of duty to their God, their Country and their fellow man could understand. And those same individuals who choose such a career give to that undertaking a dedication rarely found in other occupations. They know from the outset that they will definitely not get rich in this chosen occupation. They know that they and their family will suffer with long separations, many disruptions and moves to god-forsaken places, and that their health and well-being suffer along with those things. They know that they are among only those few who find the utmost satisfaction in service. Service to God; to Country; and their fellow man. They know that freedom, and its accompanying lifestyle that is accepted by most Americans, is not free. They know they may be called on to make the ultimate sacrifice for payment for that freedom. Still they serve...more

Plus, it's kinda fun really. Sure you have bad days, but you have truly awesome days as well.

Like I tell my kids, I was 200 miles above the artic circle watching the Northern Lights dance across the sky one day and two weeks later conducting landing ops on a tropical island. Where else can you do this?

"...none but the best". That says it all! Sometimes I ponder about the CEO's of major corporations who have come afoul of the law recently, cheating stockholders, acquiring mega bucks and building mansions that have three swimming pools and a golf course and I think of our military. I think American ideals and morals are completely askew. We all enjoy creature comforts, but the sleaze who wants three swimming pools and a complete golf course really turns me off. And they are sleaze and I would rather have, as a friend, the military guy or gal who serves his country with low pay. They are the best and greedy Americans should thank them on bended knee. God Bless America's Military.
