An easy computer question for Internet Explorer
Self | 8/23/02 | TnGop

When on Free Republic, I right click all links that I want to read, and select "open in new window". The link opens up in a "small window", requiring me an extra click (maximize) to view the window "full size". How do I set explorer to open all new windows full size? Note: Not full screen. Thanks in advance for the assistance..........

OK, I know this is a silly question with a very simple answer, but I haven't been able to get an answer anywhere else

You can't.....

People have offered different remedies, but what works for one, doesn't work for others. The IE version 6.0 which comes with WindowsXP seems to work like you want.

Happens to me sometimes. I stretch the window manually with my mouse until it is full screen. Then goto file and close. IE does save the maximize settings for me then.

Sometimes I accidentally half size a window when I meant to delete it and automatically return to the previous page (I use Netscape 4.5). I found that the next time I make a
daughter page, it comes up half size, also. If I maximize the daughter before closing, it comes up maximized the next time I make one.

Start IE, right click any URL and select Open in a New Window.

Go back to the first IE5 window you opened and close it. Return to the second window and manually drag it to fill the screen.
(Do not use the maximize button)

Close this second window, using the close box. All IE windows should now open maximized.

The above was pulled off a newsgroup. If this doesn't help, try over at www.google.com, select the newsgroups and search there.

I had a similiar problem for a while too..I still don't know what causes it or what really ended it. The only correlation I could find was I left IE up before shutting down one night and have not had the problem since (wondering if it stored window size in the registry before shutting down?)....So, I offer you yet another remedy...
Maybe Bush2000 can lend an ear on this one...

I just tried your solution.

The windows are not really maximized, but close enough.

Now about that triple-post. Set mouse on 'semi', it must be on 'Full Auto' :).

Well, I've tried all of them, and so far, no luck. I'm going through the registry looking for the right file. (Much like looking for the needle in a haystack)

Make sure if you follow the instructions that I posted that you start with no IE windows open.

Mine weren't fully opening either, but it did work for me.

DING DING DING, we have a winner. IE and Netscape rememer the size of the last window you closed, so when you open the next one it will reopen in the same way. When the last window you close is a little mini-spam pop-under/over controless window etc... the next windo you open will most likely open the same size. It's those damn advertisers and there crappy code designed to make you look at pesky windows causing the problem, not the browser.
