Missing Girls: FBI Refuses Comment On Concrete Pad
Mike Donahue, KOIN 6 News |
OREGON CITY, Ore. -- Oregon's FBI director won't confirm nor deny published reports that he's about to dig up the concrete pad behind Ward Weaver's home. Weaver claims that he is the FBI's top suspect in the missing Oregon City girls' case. The Portland Tribune quotes Special Agent Charles Mathews (pictured, below) as saying, "listen for the jackhammers." On Tuesday, Mathews said that the FBI has identified persons and places of interest, places that are connected to those people that will be checked out. But he refused to comment on the people or places mentioned to him. One place is the recent patch of concrete laid by Weaver behind his Oregon City home. Citizens have demanded that police search there, but Mathews won't discuss what he called "the techniques of his investigation." "This is also America. Our criminal system doesn't trap people by rumor and innuendo, and we're not going to get engaged in that. You're not going to hear us mention anyone until they're charged," he said. Mathews did say that the dog searches will continue. Asked if their previous searches turned up anything, Mathews replied, "Whether or not we found anything -- that's for us to know." One of the missing girls' mothers has criticized the public demand for digging in Weaver's yard. But Mathews says the community involvement is appropriate --that their anxiety is merited. Investigators still want to hear from anyone who has information about the missing girls. Anonymous tips can be sent to "Find Our Kids," P.O. Box 1705, Oregon City, Oregon 97045. The reasons that lead me to believe it are: 1. He was only a renter.
2. I would bet he has been late on rent before and was always short on money.
3.Why would you invest into a rental that you don't own.
4. He never told the landlord he was going to pour concrete.
5. He poured it himself which is not the easiest thing to do.
6. He told police he poured the slab because he was going to put in a swimming pool.
7. You guys aren't going to believe this, but Weaver's dad is in jail for killing someone and burying him beneath a concrete slab.
See, I told you that you won't believe it!
now that's a howler... how can people deliver lines like that with a straight face?
Damages in a defamation lawsuit can be quite large. This is why prosecutors rarely talk to reporters about a case until there is a conviction. If they speak and then lose, they can plan on writing a check depending on what they have said.
