[history]
A bill banning the sale or free distribution of trigger locks not approved by the state Department of Justice was sent to Gov. Gray Davis Monday.
The state Senate, voting 25-12, agreed to changes in the bill approved by the Assembly on Aug. 15. The bill, SB1670, declares that 94 brands of gun safety locks are approved for sale or giveaways in California.

The ultimate gun lock is one that will never open.

So now, along with banning the actual guns, the idiots have banned certain trigger locks which have been deemed "unsafe"! Moronics (and morons) in politics knows no bounds.

This is a great idea.
Hopefully the next bill sent to the governor will be a chastity belt for all girls under 18.

Hopefully the next bill sent to the governor will be a chastity belt for all girls under 18.No, better yet: Some kind of permanent non-defeatable mouth guard for liberal politicians. The "Lite" version keeps them from talking, the "Gold" version keeps them from eating. Just think, Teddy K. could be dead from starvation in just a few years!

Scott noted in a statement accompanying the bill that 30 brands failed federal tests last year, opening when they were "dropped, banged, picked or cut."The only trigger lock that would be totally drop, bang, pick, or cut proof would probably have to be applied with a welding torch.
Wonder if this will raise the cost (and insurance liability) enough to effectively reduce the overall number of trigger locks in use?

The state of California has required, by law, that in order to take possession of a gun that you have bought, paid for, and waited the requisite 10 days for the "instant" background check, you MUST purchase a state-authorized "trigger lock", OR you must sign an affidavit that you have a state-authorized gun safe for "safe" storage of said firearm.
I smash all trigger locks with a hammer so they can't be used to render a gun unusable.

Bill Simon received an A rating from the NRA. Go, Simon. Our only hope is Bill Simon!!!!

Gray Davis is such a liar. He told the democraps to stop sending gun control bills to him. No doubt he'll sign this piece of crap.

So how long do you suppose it will be after Davis wins reelection (if he does -- I still hold out hope) that he will order confiscation of all guns in California and abolish the Second Amendment?

Shortly after he requests a U.N. Peacekeeping mission to Commiefornia to arrest the Republicans for fighting every one of his assinine proposals.

Cutting to the chase, what this bill really does is to add a tax to gun purchases. The price of the lock, which one may toss into the blue recycling can as soon as practical, is the amount of the tax. The less common your new gun, the higher your tax will be.
And if you're poor, the tax will hit you harder than it will the rich liberals of Santa Monica or South Pasadena, Jack Scott's home. Those less able to pay Scott's tax are those who live in areas with more crime than Scott's neighborhood. Thus those who might find themselves priced out of owning a gun are those who will most likely need a gun to save their lives or the lives of their families.
But what does Jack Scott care? It's not like they're White or something. "NHI", right Jack?

I think if Davis is re-elected, then as far as gun rights in California are concerned, "you ain't seen nothin' yet."
The socialist Utopian Dictators who currently run the once great Golden State are determined to disarm and enslave every California taxpayer; they have control of the legislature, they have control of the Governor's office, they have control of the AG's office and the Cal DOJ, they have control of the 9th Federal Circuit Court and the Cal SC. They have said directly, that the "2nd Amendment does not protect the right of ordinary citizens to own guns."

Trying to bring a gun case before a California court is like trying to appeal to the courts to let you keep your farm in Zimbabwe.

Shortly after he requests a U.N. Peacekeeping mission to Commiefornia to arrest the Republicans for fighting every one of his assinine proposals. You know, I don't find it all that far fetched that the SOB would try something like that. Not now. Now anymore.
Starting in January '03, we've got handgun licensing starting in California. I've been urging everyone I know who's planning a handgun purchase in this state to do it now. I'll amend that statement.
If you're planning to purchase any weapon -- handgun, rifle, shotgun -- do it before November 5. Simon may pull it out, but frankly it looks doubtful. And if Davis wins, it will be open season on gun owners. And virtually impossible to buy one, if the right to do so hasn't been completely abolished .
The libs control the governor, both houses of the legislature, the Justice Department, the schools, the media and the courts. Law-abiding gun owners have no rights in this state.

I don't know how you can live out there. I've been to L.A. twice and found it to be the rectum of America. I would have moved out long ago. Let them tax someone else into oblivion.

Would there be any legal problem with a gun store that sould a particular gun lock for $5 with each gun purchase but then immediately after the sale bought back the lock and refunded the $5?

Scott noted in a statement accompanying the bill that 30 brands failed federal tests last year, opening when they were "dropped, banged, picked or cut." By general experience is that many so-called trigger locks are indeed garbage, but that often off-the-shelf locks sold for other purposes can work as well or better.
For example, on a New England Firearms "Pardner" shotgun, installing a "trigger lock" will not prevent the firearm from being cocked. Nor will it prevent someone from cocking the gun and hitting the exposed firing pin with something. What it will prevent is anyone from decocking, unloading, or even easily checking the chamber status of the shotgun if it gets cocked. On the other hand, putting a 1/4" padlock behind the trigger will prevent the gun from being cocked, thus ensuring that the action may be opened and checked to ensure it's empty.
