Bush a stutterer?
Posted on 08/22/2002 10:46:44 AM PDT by jefframbo2322
Many are quick to lambast the man on his various speech disfluencies, believing them to be the result of a poor intellect, but what if they are something quite beyond his control? Some of our greatest personalities and leaders in history were stutterers: Moses, Julius Ceasar, and Winston Chruchill among others. As a mild stutterer myself, his speech patterns are strikingly similar to my own. I do not outwardly stutter to the casual observer, however I do mix and match words in an attempt to bypass a block (such as saying "this evening" instead of "tonight" to avoid the hard "t" sound). This can at times result in unusual speech combinations. This mental search also results in pauses and frequent "ums". One tends to find a set of comfortable words and phrases to select from when doing this, and are often loathe to stray outside this comfort zone for fear of stuttering outright in public. When talking in smaller groups or one on one the affliction entirely resolves itself, or very nearly so. I notice many of these tendencies, and a few more I didnt mention, with Bush.

One of my stuttering boyhood friends once told me, "Give me a ni...ni...ni....five cents!"

I'll take a straight shooting stutterer over a smooth talking liar any day.

I have thought about this as well. My sister works with children who have speech impediments, thinks he has one.
I, with an IQ of only 135, am a lousy public speaker. I sound alot like Bush does, sometimes better, sometimes worse.

During one of George Wallaces' early campaigns, his opponent mentioned that Wallace received 10% disability compensation from the VA for a nrevous condition. Wallace responded with words to the effect (not precise quote), "At least I have a paper that proves I have 90% of my faculties."

BTW, excellent observation.

I'll take a real leader who stutters like Bush over a polished focus-grouped fake like Clinton every time.

The liberals are trying to convince the gullible masses that Bush is stupid, as they did with Dan Quail. However, Bush's superior college education speaks for itself, doesn't it Mr. Gore? And remember:
Liberalism is a progressive disease which ultimately kills the host.

One thing I have noticed with virtually all of the stutterers I have known in my life is that they each have their own 'phrase' that they say to end their inability to get past the stutter.
One of them always says "when in fact really". Even if it has not a damn thing to do with what he is talking about. But as soon as he says it his stuttering stops and he goes on talking.
Bush doesnt seem to have a 'phrase' that he uses. Though obviously, not all stutterers use this technique.

I don't know about stuttering but I've always thought he might be mildly dyslexic.

I don't think he is a stuttttttterer. I think he is being very careful to try and choose the exact words he uses. Or doesn't use.
I think his natural speech pattern is to say We're gonna dropkick the livin daylights outa Sadam jest asoon as we git all ar boys in place.
And that translates after to some thought to.... "The american public needs to understand that I am dedicated for the long term to a change of leadership in Iraq that results in a democratic process."

Me too. How come all the people that called Dubya dumb or dim bulb or stupid are the very same ones that get so upset when others are attacked? Hypocrites all...same o, same o.

I believe the technical term for Bush's condition is "cluttering". In any case, it's ahoot to see liberals making fun of him. Sort of like their reference to "extra chrosomes".
