Care to name a non-socialist nation in Europe?

Gee, Looie, didn't anyone ever tell you that spanish is a european language? The indigenous names in the United States are the Indian names, not the spanish ones. That said, English is the language of the United States. But keep trying to diminish that aspect of America, it's very informative to watch you work.

The UK views us as the number one rogue nation? That must be due to the those crazy Celt Welsh and Scots. They are all insane. The sane ones have long since immigrated to the US, where they made beaucoup bucks and now all live in gated communities. If you quote this post, I will deny it. Cheers.

I said what I meant, and I meant what I said.

In the first place, much of Mexico is barely inhabitable. If you look at a map of the cities and the terrain, you will see that is true. The part of Mexico that is inhabitable is grossly overpopulated. Mexico needs to export well over a million people a year to maintain it's present overpopulation levels. Fox knows that and want a place to send them. Those people are moving North in a steady swarm, not South, and they aren't crossing the border legally.

Florida was named by the Spanish, not the mexicans, incidentally.

When Hernando Cortez invaded Mexico he claimed the land as far as he could conceive, including even parts of Utah for for Spain, without ever seeing most of it. There were few Mexicans living in most of the claim. In the early 1800s Mexico refused to acknowledge the Cortez claims and expelled the Spanish, but claimed about a quarter of what is now the U. S. under the Cortez declaration. Beginning with Texas, the European settlers also rejected the Cortez claims and brough the areas into the U. S. by 1848. As a practical matter, the SW United States was settled in numbers by American Europeans before it was settled by Mexicans. Virtually all the major cities in the SW United States were built and populated by American Europeans. Significant Mexican population has been a recent event....

And so forth.

Thank you for your note of sanity! You'd think that the only people these folks complain about are Mexicans. Yes, I agree that there is a concern with some of them, who may be illegal, and could be dangerous. But there are a lot of them who are here to make a good life for themselves and their families, just like those who came in at Ellis Island long ago.

Me? Are you nuts? I can't stand the euro-peons

I also can't stand American being turned into a version of Brazil with a good water system ( for now)

I'll take a euro-peon wanting real freedom over a latin wanting cheap car parts any day of the week

"One thing you forgot to mention about hispanics is that they are extremely anti-semetic and sympathise with the palestinians."

Oh really?

You wouldn't be painting a whole bunch of people with a broad brush, would you?

Could I draw my opinion on Americans based on the pro-Palestians posters in FR?

Or on the gay movement in general?

I believe that can be done in such a way so as not to erode this new-found Latino support.

Never give him a friggin' inch. That's what I like about you. You always give credit where it's due (poll #'s). I suppose they are so high because every expectation is that amnesty is coming? It couldn't be because of anything else, eh?

Well, that's something we may have to deal with. I'd want to see the polling numbers on that. But I'm as strong a backer of Israel as anyone on here, and if it comes to butting heads on that, I'll do it.

We'd be bringing in pro-Palestinian people from Europe - and they'd agree withus a lot less often than Hispanics.

Sorry, RLK, but I don't agree with you entirely. My neighbors are hispanic and I couldn't ask for nicer people. They work hard (very hard, in fact), save money anyway they can (sewing their own curtains, drapes, etc.), and are always the first to offer food and drink if you just stop by for a moment.

Their house is immaculate and tastefully decorated, their yards are impressively maintained (even in brutal Texas heat), and their kids are well-behaved angels (a far cry from some of the spoiled monsters I've run into!).

They came into the country legally, jumped through all the hoops necessary to become legal citizens, and fought hard to learn English. Not too long ago, I could only understand every other word they said; now, I can hear the accent, but it's all English.

These are American citizens. They hoisted their flag on 9-11, and came to my home, knowing I grew up in NY, to offer whatever support I needed as the calls came in, and we cried together watching the television reports.

FTR, they vote Republican.

Now, don't get me wrong. Down here in Texas we have our fair share of illegals draining the economy, looking for handouts, and crying to have everything in Spanish. Not surprisingly, my neighbors express utter disgust at these people and adamantly refuse to be put in the same category - that would be the ultimate insult to them.

If you want to bash illegals - please, be my guest! Their status, alone, shows me they are not fit to live here and suck off taxpayers. But don't lump all Latinos in the same category. My neighbors are living proof of the American dream, and I'm proud to count them as fellow citizens.

Ah, here we go with the Blame Pete Wilson game. Funny that Pete Wilson won all of his elections. And that Prop 187 passed with over 60% of the vote. Funny that none of the pandering GOP moderates who have run since then haven't won. Oh, that's right, "it's Pete Wilson's fault" and the fault of all those nasty xenophobes who won't shut up. Couldn't ever be the fault of The Stupid Party.

But we do need to slow the flow down!

You want to go toe to toe on this topic?

By your own logic, the US was limited to a strip of land along the Eastern seaboard. The "colonization" of land that belonged to someone else is called theft...England had no more of a lagitimate claim to the land than Spain.

As for the Mexican "overpopulation", why don't you brush up on the declining birth rate in Mexico?
