Barr shoulda stayed in his original district, but he thought he could take the easy way out. It backfired, and a good Congresscritter is lost, and some wacko leftist will take his place.

This is Bob Barr, one of the House Managers?
To: Guillermo
Actually he didn't have anything to do with the district change, demos in the state house.
Of course, anybody who doesn't treat a gun as load, shouldn't be voted into public office.

No no no.
70% of the new 11th is comprised of Barr's current consituency.
Only 17% of the new 7th is comprised of Barr's current constituency.
Barr wanted an easy seat for the next 5 elections. His district was becoming more Democrat, but it was still winnable.

Congratulations!
Yet another degenerate socialist anti-Christian takes the place of a real American in Congress.
Just think how happy you will be when all of the Christians are in jail and my money will be your money!

Barr pissed off a lot of high-level GOP'ers when he chose to run against Linder.
It's his own fault.

Yeah, but Roger Kahn and Buddy Darden ARE.

Hey, lets just cut out Uncle Sam the middle man and tell me how much you need.

I beg do differ with you, but you are in error. There was a Census taken in the year 2000. Based on that Census, each state had to draw new districts for congressional representation, and the Democrats in the Georgia statehouse redrew the lines such that Linder & Barr were tossed into the same district. Barr did not move to create this situation as you seem to think.
To: Guillermo
I was under the impression, this was a safe Republican district and whoever won the GOP primary run off, would be elected. I know nothing about Kahn or Darden, but I assume they're the liberal Democrat opposition. If Linder beats Barr, he will be victorious.

Keith in
Iowa, I'm Bill in
Georgia. I can throw a rock and hit the 7th district.
I follow politics very closely here. I am not in error.
There is a reason why the GOP delegation to the House of Reps supported Linder. There is a reason why top GOP officials in the state begged Barr NOT to move and to run in the 11th district. He pissed off a lot of people by abandoning his old district.
Read my above post, where I explain why Barr moved districts.
To: Keith in Iowa; Guillermo
Linder & Barr were tossed into the same district. Barr did not move to create this situation as you seem to think.Actually, I believe both Linder and Barr moved to be in the current 11th Congressional District, although it is not a requirement that a Congressman live in his/her district. I believe that Linder's previous residence was redistricted into McKiney's 4th district as a result of the demorats outrageous gerrymandering.

Try
this article:
Barr followed the precedent set by onetime colleague and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and announced his intention to move to a new location and run for re-election in a ?new? congressional district. There was just one problem -- another Republican already represented a substantial portion of the district and was also intent on returning to Congress.
Sounds like Guillermo is right.

You are right when you say the 7th district will go to a GOP'er. This district is safe for the next 10 years, and this is precisely why Barr chose to move to the 7th and run against Linder.
Barr's old district, where Kahn and Darden are squaring off in the Dem primary, was becoming more Democratic. Barr's margins were getting thinner and thinner with each election.
He chose to bail and try to secure the 7th.
It will be much harder for a no-name GOP'er to win against either Darden or Kahn, as both of them have the name recognition. Barrs incumbency alone would have helped him win it.
He just didn't want to face a hard election cycle after cycle.
To: hangin' chad
You are right. Linder moved out of the 4th district into the 7th. Not quite the same as Barr moving out of the 11th.
When I first moved into my house, Linder was my Rep. When the SCOTUS declared GA's districts illegal, I was redistricted into the 4th (McKinney's).
Most of Linder's consituency has always been in Gwinnett country. I doubt if Barr had any.
To: TomB
So, I'm wrong. All the news coverage I've seen on this in the past couple days did not go into much detail beyond the redistricting.
