Black Demonstrators Demand Slavery Reparations

Barron, a self-proclaimed "elected revolutionary," said if the government did not act swiftly he personally would storm the Treasury Department ( news - web sites) and take the money for reparations.
Black activist Louis Farrakhan told the crowd, "America owes the black people a lot for what they've endured."
"We need land for political independence, we need millions of acres," Farrakhan added. "We need payment for 310 years of slavery, of destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture." {/B>
The United States, torn apart by the Civil War, abolished slavery in 1865. Some people argue that even 137 years after abolition, blacks still suffer from the vestiges of slavery.
U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, urged blacks to press their elected representatives in Congress to deal with the issue of slavery reparations.
"We want reparations -- not next century, not 10 years from now, but now," Conyers said. "These wrongs can only be corrected in the House of Representatives, only Congress can do what we want now. All congressmen ought to be here today."

A civil war involving blacks and whites would be pure terror in the South. With a little quick work of gun-running in say, the Delta, revolutionaries could have thousands upon thousands of people armed very quickly and headed off to sack the nearest concentration of white people. Black populations are already concentrated in urban areas, so it would be an easy matter to seize control of cities. I would expect plenty of white leftists to join a mass black rising and help move it along with their goals. Resistance would be heavy, though, considering most rural whites in the South are fairly well armed, and as soon as a 'revolt' broke out you could expect brutal acts from the white population as well. Heck, whites might trigger violence if reperations are shoved on us- and from there violence would likely escalate. Throw in a military which would likely be forcedto be 'impartial' and you have a simply lovely bit of business.

I am uninformed.
Do people still live in Soul City?
It looked completely abandoned last time I was in the area.

"I live in a city with a high black population. Most of them are the nicest, warmest people. They are wonderful neighbors. Before retiring from the decorating business, I worked in their homes. They have the same fears we have when it comes to crime. I have never heard one of them slur whites, they are for the most part upper class and have no reason to resent."Bingo. Time for them to come home....

If 50,000,000 had died in transit, the bodies would STILL be floating to shore.

I live in a National Homes subdivision on the west side of Indianapolis. The family that lives across the street from me is black. The family that lives next door to them is black. The rest of the block is mostly white, but I guarantee you all us neighbors would look out for each other rather than take sides with some rabble rousing outsiders.

I presume by your screen handle you are modeling yourself on General Cleburne? Did you know that he favored the acceptance of Blacks into the Confederate ranks in return for their freedom?
Not trying to piss you off, but I'm a little confused by your post.....

I am uninformed. I've never been in that part of the state, I just looked up "Soul City" and the first thing to show up was an STD clinic. "Nice", I thought. :-)

When Floyd McKissick replaced James Farmer as head of CORE on January 3, 1966, the organization completed a 180-degree turn that saw it change from an interracial integrationist civil rights agency pledged to uphold nonviolence into a militant and uncompromising advocate of the ideology of black power. McKissick and Roy Innis, who at that time was the head of the Harlem chapter of CORE, were close allies, and when McKissick left CORE in 1968, Innis took over.
After leaving CORE, McKissick launched a plan to build a new community, Soul City, on Warren County North Carolina farmland. McKissick saw Soul City as an integrated community with sufficient industry to support a population of 55,000. For his venture, he received a $14 million bond issue guarantee from the Department of Housing and Urban Development and a loan of $500,000 form the First Pennsylvania Bank.
Soul City, however, ran into difficulties and despite the best offers of McKissick, the project never developed as he had anticipated. Finally, in June 1980, the Soul City Corporation and the federal government reached an agreement that would allow the government to assume control the following January. Under the agreement, the company retained 88 acres of the project, including the site of a mobile home park and a 60,000 square foot building that had served as the projects headquarters.
The Department of Housing and Urban Development paid off $10 million in loans and agreed to pay an additional $175,000 of the projects outstanding debts. In exchange, McKissick agreed to drop a lawsuit brought to block HUD from shutting down the project.

"If some white guy talked this way, he would be laughed at."No..........he would have been arrested.
After this bulls**t, I don't EVER expect to see an arrest at a KKK rally EVER again, if there's anything resembling justice and equality in this country any longer.

Wow, so I guess this would be a bad time to ask HUD for a few million to start the Pink Floyd Federal Relaxation National Parkway and Camping Area?

I personally think the black community is more terrorized by crime than whites are. Good grief, the black on black crime is far worse than white on black. Decent black people do have a struggle but these rabble rousing criminal intimidators do not represent them. They represents the parasitic class headed by Jesse Jackson, etc. I shudder to think of a decent poor black family having to live surrounded by gangsters and drug dealers, sending beloved kids off to terrible schools, then having a bunch of thugs embarass them and bring shame on them. These people need to be freed from those who destroy them and lead them nowhere.

Very nice.
My family fled Lithuania during the Bolshivik Revolution. They went by row boat to Finland. Took a boat to England, than were sent to the USA because they had no place for them. My great-grand parents settled down in Lowell, MA. They both worked at a textile mill. They believed America was the greatest place. They still held onto their heritage. They had two sons. The men in my family have served in her Armed Forces since WW II . My grandmother worked for the Government also. She has signed photos from presidents that she served under on the wall of her office.
Many cultures have been en-slaved, exterminated, and persecuted. How can one race be more important than others? Will it really make these people feel better to get money for something they never really suffered themselves? Do they want to be put on African-American reservations?
I could never walk in their shoes. I was born a white Catholic Male to Russian and French-Canadian parents. All I have in my family history are proud people that made the best out of everthing they could attain.

"We need land for political independence, we need millions of acres," Farrakhan added. "We need payment for 310 years of slavery, of destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture." I think they have this wrong. I could have sworn Farrakhan said billions with a B.
