Black Demonstrators Demand Slavery Reparations

Barron, a self-proclaimed "elected revolutionary," said if the government did not act swiftly he personally would storm the Treasury Department ( news - web sites) and take the money for reparations.

Black activist Louis Farrakhan told the crowd, "America owes the black people a lot for what they've endured."

"We need land for political independence, we need millions of acres," Farrakhan added. "We need payment for 310 years of slavery, of destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture." {/B>

The United States, torn apart by the Civil War, abolished slavery in 1865. Some people argue that even 137 years after abolition, blacks still suffer from the vestiges of slavery.

U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, urged blacks to press their elected representatives in Congress to deal with the issue of slavery reparations.

"We want reparations -- not next century, not 10 years from now, but now," Conyers said. "These wrongs can only be corrected in the House of Representatives, only Congress can do what we want now. All congressmen ought to be here today."

Interesting.

Though I was not aware the Jamestown group was indentured servants. I always heard they were slaves, but I utterly reject the notion that indentured servants can be classified as slaves, so I guess I have to reject what my history book told me.

About the time of the bombing in Oklahoma City, we were constantly told stories about "The Militia Movement" and about how they were a threat. Commentators demanding the FBI, ATF, et al, must crack down on these "Anti-government extremists". Today we hear similiar militia-style rhetoric, from these YO-YOs. A question from the cheap seats, HOW ABOUT DECLARING SOME OF THESE YO-YOS, "ANTI-GOVERNMENT EXTEMISTS"?!?! Can the ATF, be told they stockpile weapons, and let the ATF, at'em? I know, wishful thinking.

The wife wonders why I won't take her and the kids to the cities. I admit it, these people scare me and they make me think thoughts I don't want to think.
She wanted to go to Washington and Baltimore this summer but I can't do it. I actually fear for their safety. What am I to do? I don't want it to be this way.

My mother in law, who is DAR, is descended from an indentured servant who earned his passage by workiing for 7 years. His descendant fought in the Revolution and descendents of that indentured servant have fought in every war since then with distinction when they were not serving their fellow men as doctors, teachers, musicians, and so on. They were poor at times, very poor during the depression, had to work very hard and never got a handout from anyone at any time. My father in law died of tobacco related illnesses but never blamed the tobacco iindustry. Now they were never the victims of racism but even if they were, I am sure I wouldn't have heard about it. Should we get reparations for them descending from indentured servants? Who is gonna pay us for their struggle. To think that anyoone is entitled pay for someone else's struggle is preposterous and infantile.

That's not quite correct. Almost 20 years before, in 1640, three indentured servants working for a white farmer named Hugh Gwyn ran away to Maryland. Two were white; one was black. They were captured in Maryland and returned to Jamestown, where the court sentenced all three to thirty lashes -- a severe punishment even by the standards of 17th-century Virginia. The two white men were sentenced to an additional four years of servitude -- one more year for Gwyn followed by three more for the colony. But, in addition to the whipping, the black man, a man named John Punch, was ordered to "serve his said master or his assigns for the time of his natural Life here or elsewhere." John Punch is considered to be the first slave in the British colonies.

I was just in Baltimore and stayed at a Bed and Breakfast in the heart of the city surrounded by black neighborhoods. I saw a thriving integrated communiity with black people running businesses, workiing, participating, energised. The criminal class is a small minority just as in the white community. Hey, even the drug dealers looked good and prosperous.

Then we can all relax and see what they do with the reparations.

I've seen a sample of what is done with "reparations". The local indian tribe was paid $40 million cash instead of having some contaminated land on the reservation cleaned up. Supposedly, they would take responsibility for cleaning it up with the cash settlement. What actually happened? The money was paid out to individual members of the tribe. Some purchased cars. Some purchased drugs and alcohol. Some capitalized their meth labs. No clean up was done. The money was rapidly squandered.

Do you doubt that reparations paid to blacks would turn out differently? Do think that would end the entitlement mentality? The "Great Society" programs instituted by LBJ in the early 60's have paid out over $5 trillion in welfare benefits. Blacks have been the major recipients. We have already been taken to the cleaners.

I suspect those who seek a violent means of lining their pockets with gold will be paid with lead. It will be an indiscriminate race war.

"...too bad they weren't shipped back to Africa."

But the point of my post is, they weren't shipped back to Africa, because they refused to go.

Post-Civil War Black leaders realized they were in a better place, and they wanted a piece of the pie. And they earned it, too! By the end of the Civil War, there were tens of thousands of blacks within the Union ranks; thousands of them died fighting for what they believed was the emancipation of their race, and in those days they were for the Repubilican Party, the party which freed them. Many people educated in the public school system don't know that Blacks were Republicans until Eleanor Roosevelt fed them a line of bullshit during the depression. Many people, both white and black, red, yellow, and purple, were suffering during those times, but Eleanor convinced blacks that their salvation lied with the liberals. They've been suffering ever since.

Bottom line: Most Blacks had ancestors in this country long before my own were here. They were brought here, enslaved, and when they were freed their leaders felt that this was their country too. I can't argue with that; if Blacks have earned anything due to slavery, it's their right to be called Americans. But part of being an American is to realize that you've been tossed into the melting pot; no one race should consider themselves entitled to something another race is not. And I'll say it again; the sooner Blacks jump off of the liberal manure spreader, the better, both for them and for America...

Think that I'm crazy by stocking up on rounds of ammo?

We are in a no-win situation here. Our skin is going to be our sin on both sides if this pops off.

Heaven help us.

Hey, Soul City can't be counted as a complete failure, at least they have their own STD Clinic, a sure sign of success in today's grotesque, victimization driven culture.

Well, I have to admit I agree with the "destruction of our minds" bit.

Yes, to change the old ad a little ~ "A mind is a terrible thing."

I live in a city with a high black population.
Most of them are the nicest, warmest people.
They are wonderful neighbors.
Before retiring from the decorating business, I worked in their homes.
They have the same fears we have when it comes to crime.
I have never heard one of them slur whites, they are for the most part upper class and have no reason to resent.
