Black Demonstrators Demand Slavery Reparations

Barron, a self-proclaimed "elected revolutionary," said if the government did not act swiftly he personally would storm the Treasury Department ( news - web sites) and take the money for reparations.

Black activist Louis Farrakhan told the crowd, "America owes the black people a lot for what they've endured."

"We need land for political independence, we need millions of acres," Farrakhan added. "We need payment for 310 years of slavery, of destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture." {/B>

The United States, torn apart by the Civil War, abolished slavery in 1865. Some people argue that even 137 years after abolition, blacks still suffer from the vestiges of slavery.

U.S. Rep. John Conyers, a Democrat from Michigan, urged blacks to press their elected representatives in Congress to deal with the issue of slavery reparations.

"We want reparations -- not next century, not 10 years from now, but now," Conyers said. "These wrongs can only be corrected in the House of Representatives, only Congress can do what we want now. All congressmen ought to be here today."

Let them take it up with Mugabe. He's preparing a 'black only' homeland for them presently.

Well, I have to admit I agree with the "destruction of our minds" bit.

Where is our first black president, during all of this? Vacationing at that model of racial integration, Martha's Vineyard.

destruction of our minds and the robbery of our culture Exactly which great libraries did the white folk burn in Africa, which great music manuscripts did they destroy, which great experiences and wisdom of public life have been appropriated by Europeans from Africans?

By any modern standard, some black people were mistreated: they were enslaved by other Africans, and sold as slaves to European colonists (this is, by the way, very different from Gypsies that were enslaved in Romania until about 1880s not by Gypsies but others).

The mistake made by Russian aristocracy at the turn of the century was to think that bolshevism was so obvious and vulgar that, with the exception of few trouble-makers, it did not deserve much attention. The same mistake was repeated by the Germans who thought that Hitler was too vulgar and obvious: everyone ought to have been able to see what he was up to. Well, if something is obvious, it does not mean it will not happen, just as was the case with the Russian revolutiom and the Nazi holocaust.

We make a similar mistake today, thinking that Farakhan is too extreme, too stupid, and too obvious. A whole generation of blacks --- and Hispanics -- will remember the events of this weekend. It is not the first time that the question of a separate black state is raised. Depending on the turn of events, we have more than one seed in the ground for a civil war.

Storm the treasury?? My Lord, I thought I had seen it all. And what is this 310 years of slavery. Let's see, the Civil War ended in 1865 and the slaves were freed so if we go back 310 years that puts us to 1555,,were there slaves then. I mean did Columbus bring them over? We didn't even have a country till 1776 or thereabouts. The man can't subtract. Lets give him directions to the local bankand let him knock it off and tell him he hit the jackpot. And land? May I suggest a big ole piece of a desert out west. My husband actually favors reparations, but with the provision that we never hear any accusations of racism again, no quotas, no affirmative action, etc. Then we can all relax and see what they do with the reparations.

Some people argue that even 137 years after abolition, blacks still suffer from the vestiges of slavery.

They are actually suffering from poor leadership.

They follow Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and the Black Congressional Congress (McKinney, Conyers, Lee, etc.), so they should act like them.

If they followed the examples of Clarence Thomas, William McGowan and Walter Williams they would be acheivers.

At some time in history those pathetic race-hustlers will have to answer for their sins of poor leadership. Jesse Jackson won't be so reverend then.

They omitted the charming words of the young gentleman near the end of the rally: "Show me the money, or I'll show you my Glock."

I didn't believe my own ears on that one!

A bunch of self-congratulating muggers parading around Washington. What has this country come to? I guess we now know the real reason that the black "leadership" has pushed for gun control.

"Show me the money, or I'll show you my Glock."

I didn't have the pleasure of seeing the "show", but that statement sums it up quite nicely; it is nothing but robbery. In this case, perhaps, armed robbery, but that is exactly what they are attempting here.

My reply is, "Draw!".

1. The freak assumes there is something in the treasury he can take. 2. The stupid freak assumes that if there is, they will let him have it. 3.Where do black people find low grade morons like this to purportedly speak for them anyway? If some white guy talked this way, he would be laughed at.

They would have been labled racist troublemakers, arrested and taken to jail.

Neither Farrakhan nor Sharpton desire a truly independent black state, because they have no desire to make it a working proposition. What they really want is an entity with all the trappings and prerogatives of sovereignty supported lavishly by reparations from an eternally guilty "white" America, to which they will reserve the right to reemigrate to at will.

They want affirmative action and handouts. That is all they know. Only more of it. This prospects probably horrifies ordinary working black folk more than anyone else. There is a Washington Post writer called Keith Richburg, who was for years a correspondent in Africa, assigned to such garden spots as Somalia, Rwanda and the Congo. The preface to his book, "Out of America", says it all. It is shocking. He says, after recounting hs experiences in Mother Africa, "I thank the slaver who brought my ancestors to America". A race-traitor? No. Just a man who wants to live a normal life.
