In office buildings on either side of the Maryland State House yesterday, day-long deliberations about ethics replaced the usually somnolent summertime ambiance of Annapolis.
Twelve politicians who might otherwise have been out campaigning sat in a dimly lighted conference room discussing allegations of misbehavior lodged against six of their colleagues. Nearby, the independent State Ethics Commission was putting the final touches on strict new rules that could lead to the expulsion of one of Maryland's top-grossing lobbyists.

Townsend (D) has called the federal probe into her crime-control program "political garbage."
Sorry, Demmycrats, but I didn't hear you calling it "political garbage" when Traficant got railroaded.

Traficant was the exception. Ordinarily the democrat hacks consider "ethics" to be something only Republicans must answer for.

The Demmycrats had to get rid of Traficant. Although officially he had the Magic D, Traficant said many things that made the Demmycrats VERY UNCOMFORTABLE. The idiot Republicans played ball with them like a bunch of morons.

"Townsend (D) has called the federal probe into her crime-control program "political garbage." She notes that the U.S. attorney's office driving the investigation is led by a Republican appointee with close ties to U.S. Rep. Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. (R), also a gubernatorial hopeful." Would that still be political garbage were it a Democrat leading the investigation? Garbage in and Garbage out Ms. Townsend...whom I am told is not too swift...others speak for her...often.

Would that still be political garbage were it a Democrat leading the investigation? No, it would be a whitewash, like the Mary Jo White/Torricelli situation.

They're trying to give the Starr treatment to these investigators...destroy their credibility and make the corrupt look like victims of a mere politcal attack.

Let me get this straight. The Democrats have been running things in Maryland for atleast twice as long as I have been alive, and in that time that could have made the Godfather jealous with all of the corruption going on in Annapolis. Finally, some people are caught so they make a bunch of new laws. Then they break these new laws and the older laws. Then they blame Republicans for questioning their ethics for breaking these laws. You just gotta love Annapolis politics.
