I don't really know the terrain is like around Westfir...

I think Westfir is near Oakridge ??

Oakridge is on highway 58, east of Eugene...

One should never think about fishing on the Williamson or Klamath Lake while driving.

My wife watches me like a hawk when I'm driving north on 101 from about Garberville to Gold Beach. She throws cold water on me if I see a river in great shape and start breathing heavy, panting and getting glassy eyed.

Or were you thinking about rendering justice to the Green Jihadists who are responsible for burning down so much of your state?

I was joking the other day with a new couple, and one asked me what political group I was in. I replied a moderate.

My poor wife about choked on her glass of Chardonay! I told her that I was moderate compared to our older son and her younger brother. She agreed. Since 9/11, I'm a moderate compared to how my DIL would handled the Islamakazis here and in the middle east. If she was president, the Islamakazis and their host countries would have been vaporized one hour after the first plane hit the WTC's. She was a moderate liberal before 9/11.

Here is a link I am sure you would find interesting, (I found it Here):

Mattole protester cut out from lockdown w/out law enforcement

Around 4:30 a.m. on August 13th,, 2002, a non-violent activist locked herself to a loader off of Rainbow Ridge in protest of the continued clear-cutting of old-growth owned by Maxxam/Pacific Lumber (PL) in the Mattole Watershed. In recent months, numerous plans in the area have been filed along with eight out of nine of the plans PL has filed start up with the intent to log to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

Truck drivers of D.W. Grant Trucking Company and logging contractors for Maxxam/Pacific Lumber Company, were the first to arrive at the blockade. The contractors began violently throwing wooden slash at the protesters and screaming obscenities. The contractors were filmed battering the woman's legs with the wood while she was locked down to the loader. Soon after, another employee tied one of her ankles to the tread of the machine.

Carl Anderson, head of security for Maxxam/PL, along with other workers, cut the ladder that the protester was locked to on the loader. The activist's clothes were unprotected from the sparks of the grinder and her legs received minor burns. She was video taped to be screaming of pain while the extraction was happening. The protester locked down a second time to a nearby log. By this time, the Humboldt County Sheriff had arrived, and the woman was arrested for tresspassing and resisting arrest. She was soon released.

The hands off approach on protesters mandated by the David "Gypsy" Chain wrongful death settlement for Maxxam/PL employees and contractors was disgarded this morning as they threw wood and cut the protester out of her lockdown without the presence of law enforcement.

The Upper and Lower North Forks of the Mattole River, owned by Maxxam/PL contains the largest, low-elevation, coastal Douglas-fir old-growth forest in California, with some areas which have had no roads built or any previous history of logging.

There are documented sightings of Spotted Owl and Red Tree Vole nests within some of the timber harvest areas, as well as populations of rare plants, including a rare lichen called Usnea Longissma. The agencies who have surveyed the area have shown much concern about the many landslides and steep unstable slopes that surround and are within the THP boundary markers as well as for the many threatened and endangered species which are specifically old growth dependant.

LOL - you're correct sir. I was passing the turn off to my favorite launch at the time. I could not believe that Pelican Butte (A mountain fenced off by the green police) and Mt Mc Gloughlin were invisible from my location. They recommend no outdoor activities for the basin today.

What would revenge be to the watermelon basta*ds? Not let them fly on a fossil fuel burning plane, or a car that can't pass emmisions tests? Not letting them live in a house built out of forest products? What would be good punishment for these frauds??

First ban them from using any electricity to live, communicate or plan their anti America stuff.

Then they can't live in a house with any wood in the construction or inside it. They want zero logging.

They can't drink city or bottled water as evil power was used to purify it and deliver it.

They should raise their organic food using their own fertilizer.

There should be no medicine for them as lab animals were used for safety tests. Often plants are killed for the basic ingredients of many pharmaceuticals.

They should never drive, ride or use anything gasoline/carbon fuel powered vehicles. That includes food, clothing, newspapers and other nice things that our capitalist system provides.

When they get to be 20 something, they should stop breathing for Mother Earth, mass eco suicide. They should never be allowed to breed to pass their suicidal genes on.

Not at this point. Hopefully Crater Lake can enjoy it's one hundred year anniversary as a national park this year in relative peace.

Crater Lake lodge that has recently been rebuilt is a jem, and well worth staying in to help get a real intimate feel for this beautiful lake.

I love taking a bicycle and riding the 22 mile rim road around Crater Lake time to time.

It trully is a special place.

The Tiller fires are visible from the crater. Over 40K acres burning just west of crater lake. The fires pose no threat, but you can see the huge plumes. If the winds are right, the smoke settles into the crater, ruining the day. I went Tuesday & it was a perfect day.

This is the view of the north end of the Florence/Biscuit fire near Galice/Agness just after noon before it starts to really burn from the heat of the day helping it along.

It would take 3-4 photos with my camera to get the fires entire view from here.

The entire horizon is burning. This view is approx 30-35 miles from Grants Pass.

view from Grants Pass just after noon

The same view 4 hours later. This is not a sunset enhanced photo, just a hot fire.

The wind has been blowing the smoke away from us yesterday and today, a welcome break.

Incredible photos and they tie right in with those NOAH satellite pics that I posted earlier. They show massive burns happening around what used to be the Kalmiopsis Wilderness.

Thanks for all of your photos.

There is the lates on that evacuation order for Oak Flats:

Oak Flats area ordered evacuated

By JEFF BARNARD
The Associated Press
8/15/02 11:52 PM

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) -- About 30 homes were evacuated three miles south of Agness Thursday evening as Biscuit Fire flames came within a mile of the neighborhood of Oak Flats.

"The fire hasn't blown up," said fire spokesman Dick Fleishman. "But it's progressing that way, and the (Curry County) sheriff thought it would be safer to evacuate during the day than at night."

National Guard troops were guarding the roads leading to the communities -- Oak Flats and Spud Road -- to keep residents from re-entering.

The evacuees, more than 60 people, were sent to Riley Creek School in Gold Beach, said Fleishman.

From a distance ... A NASA Terra satellite image shows the spread of a wildfire at the
Oregon-California state line that has now burned over 375,000 acres. The Biscuit Fire
was sparked by lightning in the Klamath Mountains in Oregon and has burned over the
state line into California. The columns of smoke Blue wisps billowing from the fire reach
far south down the Pacific Coast. Photo:AFP
