(KYW) Aug. 13, 2002 10:05 pm The latest exclusive Eyewitness News Survey USA poll of the New Jersey Senate race finds Republican challenger Doug Forrester leading incumbent Bob Torricelli.
The poll of 695 likely voters found that 48 percent would vote for Forrester, while 35 percent would choose Torricelli. Seventeen percent would vote for someone else or were undecided. The margin of error in this poll is 3.8 percent.
Just three weeks ago, the race was tied at 43 percent each.
The latest poll found that Torricelli has lost ground among men, women, middle-aged and older voters.
In response to the survey, Torricelli campaign manager Ken Snyder issued this statement: "Survey USA is a non-scientific survey whose numbers are disputed by other reputable polls. Once the senator's record is clarified in the ensuing campaign the results will be clear."
The Forrester campaign issued a statement of their own. "This credible survey confirms other surveys showing a real trend toward Doug Forrester. We are pleased," said Tom Rubino.
Anchor Larry Kane says "There is no question that this survey result was a reaction to the recent senate criticism of Torricelli. It's also the first survey since Torricelli's ads admitting mistakes and stressing his overall record, but we don't really know whether this is a momentary surge by Forrester or just a reaction to Torricelli's problems."
Kane continued his analysis, saying the race will tighten as the campaign picks up but concluded "It is apparent that Robert Torricelli is in a real fight - one where he'll have to use all of his celebrated political talents to the fullest if he hopes to survive."

When will they EVER learn? IDIOTS!!!
"The latest poll found that Torricelli has lost ground among men, women, middle-aged and older voters."
Gee, doesn't leave too many demographics out, does it? Once you take away Men, Women, Middle-Aged and Older voters, all you've got left are the Young Eunuchs and Young Unfinished Sex-Changers. Way to go, Torch. That's a helluva base ya gots there...

Oh well, can't win 'em all. The thing is, we should have won out there. However, when a candidate like Simon gets mangled in a fraud case while at the same time allowing a con artist like Davis to define him, then you have to actually look at the candidate as the problem. Not his team. A good candidate would have had a blood purge months ago to weed out the incompetents. Simon is not a good candidate. Forrester, apparently, is a good candidate. Therein lies the difference.
Send GW to New Jersey.
Be Seeing You,
Chris
Where's that?
Coop--Check this out. The reprimand and stupid commercial saying "sorry" have apparently sunk in. Wow. Now, in mid-late October, we need the "letter" to come out...
Maybe he'd rather be right than be Senator. Nothing short of a gun to my head could make me call that two-bit slime hustler. If that's what it takes to win in Jersey, the place needs nuked.

Bingo, we have a winner....
If Forrester wins 55-45% in Nov, these folks will still be complaining that he should have won by 20 points. Bwahahahahaha!
Based on what? You saw a poll, or you're just repeating the tsk-tsk's from the handwringers?
Maybe he would rather be a LOSER than Senator. Five minutes on the phone to Howard. And he doesn't have to make a vow to Satan, unlike what a lot of folks here think. I would rather make a quick phone call to Howard than have to kiss a baby which the candidates have to do.
