Don Young was a dead man. Politically speaking, that is. After 10 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Republican "Congressman for all Alaska" had finally met his match. It was 1992, and polls showed that Young trailed former Valdez Mayor John Devens by more than 20 points with the election barely one month away.

About that time, Hellenthal began to shift to the Republican side. Some of his father's friends had died or dropped out of politics. Some Democrats had failed to pay their bills, while the Republicans not only paid promptly but also paid well.

"Well, let's put it this way," he says. "I have never been stiffed by a Republican. Ever. And I've been stiffed by an incredible number of Democrats."

The power of the polls are Zero with me. I belive most are as biased as the Liberal Media and I do not pay any attention to them.
