Let me say this about that:
Re JR and FR: This place has taught me a lot about a lot. I've encountered some extremely intelligent people. [I've also encountered a number of dolts] What the smart ones have taught me has been invaluable. [Actually, the dolts have been enlightening, too]
I remain appreciative. You'll hear no negative-FR words from me. Ever.
By the by, the '97 inception dates have changed a number of times over the years. I always assumed it was programming. I hit this spot, via Drudge, in August of '97. Obviously, JimRob et al were already present.

There wasn't any registration at FR for the first year or so. We all posted with our full names and eddresses and never thought that someone would use it to harass us. It wasn't until eschoir, Ash and a few other Clinton trolls showed up and started crapping on the rug (like eschoir talking filth about Bill Barclays daughter) that Jim considered a registration process...and most of us exchanged our real names for screen names.

BTW - As you can see, I was the least creative one in the bunch!

I too came here also via Drudge in 1997, but lurked too long. The reason being is that I will not join ANYTHING on the WEB. The only exception was/is FreeRepublic. Bet I lurked 8+ months before I knew I would bust if I didn't start replying on occasion. What a great site and great group of people. I have never seen such in depth analysis and HUMOR concentrated anywhere else as I've witnessed here. I've 'baptised' my 'puter many times reading posts at FR.

Actually, after giving it a bit more thought, I did join in '97, but forgot my PW I think. Can't remember for sure, but it seems to me I did have to re-register. Forgive me, I have yet ANOTHER b'day next month. (sigh)
