You find this amazing that a congressman is not afraid to tell the truth now that he does not need to get re-elected.

There are taboo subjects with considerable amount of political landmines that most smart politicians tend to avoid. Cuba is one, Iraq is another one.

Let us talk about Cuba first; this small socialistic dictatorship is irrelevant in the big scheme of things. Yes at one time, during the USSR big days, Cuba was a menace to the US. Now, however, they can hardly feed their people.

The same thing with Iraq, at this time Sadam and Quadafi are simply trying hard to fight revolutions from within to worry about menacing other countries.

Cuba, once it is opened to the US trade would be energized to the demise of Castro. As far as Quadafi/Sadam; they are simply power hungry dictators like the rest of the Arab leaders. Let us not waste our time and money on them. Let us focus our effort on eliminating the hate preaching in mosques, as well as eliminating financing of militant Islamists movement around the world. These movements are inspired and financed by Saudi Arabia, and Iran! Not Iraq!

I suppose that's one possibility. Given that the law of unintended consequences hasn't been repealed, there are certain other, less-desireable ones. You do see them, don't you?

I agree with you on Cuba. The sooner we re-establish trade, the sooner the people of Cuba will realize that it wasn't the embargo that has kept them poor, it is Castro's poor leadership. Until then, every ill that befalls Cuba will be blamed on the embargo.

I don't agree with you on Iraq. Iraq is a threat to the United States mainly because of an incomplete war under George H.W. Bush and lack of strong will during the Clinton administration. Since Bush failed to topple Saddam and Clinton allowed Iraq to rebuild a lot of its infrastructure, it is now poised to dish out hostility once again.

I'm one of the people who doubt the relationship between Islamic fundamentalists and Saddam who is known to kill Islamic fundamentalists, but that isn't the reason to go after Saddam and force a regime change. Saddam needs to be taken out in the first step to create stability in the region. Saddam is all too willing to stir up tempests of trouble.
