The term "HAM" is a nickname for those who participate in the hobby called amateur radio. The origin of that term is not known to us. The term "amateur" these days means "one who is not professional." Doen't know much about the subject.

That was not the original meaning....(snip) Every year in June, HAMs generate disaster....(snip)

I operated as K5SLD for the Arlington ARC.

It is great that your wife has a license. I wonder if she ever checks into the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Assn.) net on 14.263? The YL's usually get going about noon or 1 PM CST and the OM's take over after that. I listen for my friend WA4JYJ there. I talked to him yesterday and he was in the canyons of Yellowstone. He is coming back south from Alaska.

Ain't Ham Radio great? 73.

I have checked into the FMCA Net but I don't believe my wife has yet. She always says she can't get me away from the mike long enough to do any operating herself. Hi.

I shall look for your friend. By the way, what is YOUR callsign? FReep mail me if you don't want it on the thread.

Yes sir, Ham Radio is the greatest hobby in the world!
