PUERTO RICO: 22 Asian (Illegal) immigrants detained in Rincon
The San Juan Star | Saturday, August 3, 2002 | STAR Staff

After traveling across the ocean for three months, 22 Asian immigrants were detained Friday by local police shortly after coming ashore in Rincon.

Aguadilla police spokesman Juan Bautista Ayala said the 17 men and five women were taken into custody around 2 a.m. Friday after agents Wilfredo Vega and Jose Ventura spotted them while patrolling the area.

Bautista Ayala said the detainees had apparently set out aboard a vessel from the Dominican Republic.

The immigrants remained together after coming ashore and did not resist arrest.

A Chinese businessman from Rincon was asked to serve as interpreter, Ayala said, and although they had difficulty conversing, they managed to communicate in writing.

The undocumented immigrants said they left Asia three months ago and their next to last stop was the Dominican Republic, where three Dominicans took them to Puerto Rico by boat and then fled.

Translating for the detainees, the interpreter told police they had paid $60,000 apiece for the trip, and had set sail from China.

Authorities had not determined the immigrants country of origin.

The detainees said they had not eaten in three days, and many suffered from dehydration.

"A chinese businessman from Rincon was asked to serve as interpreter..."

Could this be the same guy they paid $60,000 apiece to for the trip?

Where does your average Asian get $60,000? Did they agree to work the debt off once they got here?

How is it this Chinese businessman couldn't tell what country they came from? I can usually tell from their accents and sound of their language.

Looks like the illegal immigrants from the Far East have learned about the wide open, Puerto Rican, back door into the United States.

Did anybody NOT know about it, except us?

That can't be a pretty sight.

I bet it sounds like an auction.

I have $2 billion here, $2 billion here. Will anybody make it $3 billion, $3 billion? I have $3 billion, $3 billion. Now, do I here $4 billion? Will anybody make it $4 billion...?

LOL!

You got that right, that's exactly what it was like. The last part of it was how to get drug lord Sanchez elected govenor of Texas. "It would open the door" to better treatment and lifestyle of Mexicans. The advice was, register everyone, get them to the voters booth.

Sanchez and Perry are really slinging mud. I'm tired of both of them. Gotta go with Perry though.

I don't know, is there any real point in fighting the inevitable? Sooner than later we will have a Mexican Gov., some immigrant that has been legal a couple of years, followed by another, then another. I'm asking myself given there is no real leader on the horizon, if it's worth stalling it off.

The Japanese didn't fall for that one. Good for them. It probably would have worked here. ;^)

"...,if it's worth stalling it off."

It might be that the outrages perpetrated against the Taxpayers of Texas by a puppet of the Mexican government might wake up the rest of the country.

And then again, maybe not. ;^(

Sooner than later we will have a Mexican Gov.,

And Senators, and President, and Vice President, and Secretary of State, and Secretary of Defense, and.....you can finish it!!

While the republicans and democrats are fighting to save their parties - the PRI/PAN are sharpening their sabers!!

The handwriting is on the wall for all to see. The Bush administration has totally capitulated. They'd rather join them then even try to fight them.

Keep getting the word out as best you can. There are still other members of Congress that feel as Tancredo does about this alien invasion. We have to keep making them aware that immigration is a key issue that they could use to make their candidacy for higher office viable.

We have a couple interesting months ahead. The internet cameras on the borders could stir up some additional investigative reporting on Fox that other networks would be forced to follow.

That could give a politician like Tancredo valuable face-time and increase the likelihood that Bush will be challenged in the primary or that a viable 3rd party will emerge.

Bush's ticking time-bomb in all of this is the danger of another terrorist attack his open borders policy has left this country vulnerable to.

There's only 35 days left until 9/11.
