Vatican Excommunicates Seven Women 'Priests'
Mon Aug 5, 8:24 AM ET
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Reinforcing its opposition to female priests, the Vatican ( news - web sites) said Monday it had excommunicated seven women, including a nun, who were ordained in June in a ceremony on a boat in Austria.
An Argentine bishop, not recognized by the Holy See, ordained the Austrian, German and U.S. women in a ceremony, witnessed by 300 people.
This prompted a warning from the Vatican last month, giving the women 12 days to repent.
"Because the women ... did not give any indication of amendment or repentance for the most serious offence they had committed...they have incurred excommunication," Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, a papal right-hand man, said in a press release from the Vatican.
He had earlier branded the ordination "an affront to the dignity of women," saying women had a specific role in the church which was distinctive and irreplaceable.

They should have excommunicated the scores (modest estimate) of homosexual priests first.

Gee, you go outside The Church, ordain yourself a Priest, and then you get excommunicated??? Whod a thunk?
BTW- I completely agree that anyone who fraudulently gained the position of Priest and committed such unspeakable sins, should be immediately excommunicated.

The extent to which the American Catholic Church has accepted homosexuals in the priesthood is an issue of contention with Holy See. Rome is not happy with it and not happy with the current American plan with respect to accused priests.
Under Cannon law accused priests are suppose to be tried on charges of violating their oath and the tenents of the Church when they commit evil acts. The American Church wants to sidestep this because, in my opinion, trying these accused molesters would expose much of the Church's acceptance of homosexuals in the religious orders; a fact that would reduce the power of the American Bishops vis vis Rome.
At least that's my take on the matter.

I post this under some trepidation, because I feel women have a unique and wonderful role in any Christian church. I believe, however, that New Testament scripture by Paul does not allow women direct roles in leadership.
But, if the Vatican wants to "get its house in order" with this news release, it had better start with the rot that has infused such evil into the church--homosexuality.
The New (and Old) Testaments leave little doubt to God's opinion of sodomy.

Good for the Vatican! There are plenty of chuches where women like this can get themselves ordained. The one, holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church isn't one of them. Never has been, never will be. Deal with it. The Vatican recognizing priestesses is about as likely as the Vatican blessing phony homosexual "marriages." It didn't happen in ancient Roman days, and it ain't going to happen now.
If only people spent as much time trying to address the REAL problems within the Church -- homosexual priests, heterodox bishops, Cultural of Death politicians, dissent groups that pretend to be the voice of common Catholics -- then perhaps we can make some headway. Until then, we'll be forced to endure these side-shows by charlatans and publicity hounds.

They could lose the pro-abort Catholic legislators as well ... Kennedy, Mikulski, in fact, all Catholic Democrats.

Both the pedophiles and the homos.

I have always wondered, though, how excommunication works. What is to stop these women from walking into any catholic church and partaking of the Eucharist? I know that one of the catholic freepers will have the answer.
Who keeps track of the excommunicated?

Anybody know if there's a Papal Bull or if it was just an announcement?

Is this every good news. We must be on a verge of a great spiritual awakening. When the Holy Spirit churns the waters, all the scum rises to the top.

You mean just entering the Church as a lay participant in the congregation? Other than eternal damnation, nothing would stop that, unless it was in a place where they are individually well known. The only way to stop it would be to hire a detective to follow every excommunicant around all the time.

I won't be visiting your link, but I will assure you that it would not alter my view that you can get rid of all of them, pedophiles, pederasts, & homos.

They should have excommunicated the scores (modest estimate) of homosexual priests first. Hate to break the news to you, but most of the people beating the drums for priestesses are the same people beating the drums for normalizing "committed homosexual relationships" [sic].
Peter Kreeft would tell you that that's no coincidence; the symbolism of the Mass is profoundly nuptial, so if we're going to have a woman as stand-in for the Heavenly Bridegroom at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, it only makes sense to have a woman stand-in for an earthly bridegroom at a natural "marriage". Or (as he more bluntly puts it), if we have priestesses, to be consistent, we must approve of lesbian marriage.

Here is the problem. They are presenting themselfs as preists in a way to protest and make their point. If you are not a catholic and wish to force your political ideas on to the church then your in a position to be excommunicated.
