Government. Whatta mess.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
The FBI audit covers weapons and laptopcomputers that were reported lost, missing, orstolen between October 1999 and January 2002.Send some agents down to the New Orleans
whore houses. There are a lot of lap tops
down there. Oh, wait, that's lap dances
and there are already too many agents
'investigating' there as it is.

Hey I have an idea. Why don't we put guys like this in charge of airport security and border patrol? What's that. Oh. Never mind.
Unfriggin believable.

I'm assuming these would all be "assault" weapons with full capacity magazines, flash hiders, pistol grips, etc. Wonder how many Class 3's are involved.
I've been told "assault" weapons are only useful to criminals.

I'm pretty sure these items are not "missing" but have simply become part of the private collections of DOJ employees and officers.

The BOP, DEA, and USMS audits cover weapons and laptop computers that were reported lost, missing, or stolen between October 1999 and August 2001. The FBI audit covers weapons and laptop computers that were reported lost, missing, or stolen between October 1999 and January 2002...The FBI reported an additional 211 missing weapons outside the time frame of the audit...
Perhaps a little more specificity would be helpful in implementing "reforms"?! Clearly something besides the laptops and weapons needs to go missing, be stolen, or get lost!!

(Reuters version) FBI, INS, Other Agencies Report 775 Missing Weapons
Mon Aug 5,11:53 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The FBI ( news - web sites), the Immigration and Naturalization Service and other U.S. Justice Department ( news - web sites) law enforcement agencies had at least 775 weapons and 400 laptop computers stolen, lost or missing over a recent two-year period, according to a report released on Monday.
To: Oldeconomybuyer
"lost or missing over a recent two-year period"Uh, I thought it was a ten year {Clintoon Administration} period. They are trying to tie it to the current administration (not-so-subtly, might I add).
To: agenda_express
You're right of course. But here's another counterpoint - if the new people in charge haven't fixed these issues by now - almost two years later - then it is clear the new administration is at fault.
As I heard someone once say "For three months, a new commander can blame the problems on the previous command. After that point, if he hasn't fixed the issues, then he is the one to blame."

"if the new people in charge haven't fixed these issues by now - almost two years later - then it is clear the new administration is at fault...Depends on the meaning of "almost", of course!! And do remember, this is the government we're talking about...probably why the "new administration" doesn't agree with "civil service protections" (read "life-time tenure") for all Homeland Security employees...
Just trying to be fair here! ;)

Five agencies under Justice Department jurisdiction, including the FBI and DEA, have reported 775 missing or stolen weapons and 400 missing laptop computers, says a report released Monday.Okay, you two, share and share alike. What are you charging per-each for this swag??

And just how many of Bush's appointees have made it through the Senate confirmation gridlock, hummm?
The dems are doing the same thing to Bush the LAPD does to perps, handcuff him by stalling critical appointments and simultaniously beating him up via their cronies in the lamestream media for not making needed reforms fast enough.
But Bush is sharper than the average LA perp, he is avoiding playing into the Dems trap and is doing more with less. Pound for pound, the Bush team is much more effective playing with a fraction of their normal team than x42's bloated bureacracy. Bush knows that the only thing that matters to the voter is sucess, not excuses.
The wild card is the economy, which is reacting wildly to media hype of various domestic and international crisis, real and imagined. The dems are madly trying to drown that baby, but some how Bush needs to do more than a few corporate perp walks to instill confidence in the market. O'Neil better start earning his keep, else he may become the goat in November.

"In the inspector general's audit, the INS and the FBI reported losses of 539 and 212 weapons, respectively. The FBI reported an additional 211 missing weapons outside the time frame of the audit."
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it absurd that the FBI can't find weapons? Geeze, haven't they been humiliated enough lately?
Can't wait till next year to see what the Homeland Security looses....

Your comment is uncanny~~~.
Actually, this is years old news, but it now just being brought to public light, thanks to the Bush D.O.J. work.
Dirty/rogue agents along with outside corporate "associates" have been doing this for years, taking anything that was in any evidence room or warehouse, not to mention titles for houses, cars, boats and jet planes that have been used for illicit and illegal activities .
It is no coincidence that these activities reached all time highs during the latter portion of the Clinton/Gore/Reno second term. There are boatloads of agents living well beyond their means...
Many are now running and their paper trails are emerging.
Ex-agents, posing as active agents on cases, using Corporate charge cards have been found to be harassing, and worse, private citizens.
Some of you think I write scripts. You might remember, facts are revealed first, then fiction is based on those facts. Tis the Tip of the Iceberg...

Report: Justice Department missing 775 weapons, 400 laptops I really love it when the government preaches gun control and personal responsibility to us. I've never lost a gun or a laptop computer with important work info on it. Way to go, guv!
