[history]
Likely Republican nominee for governor is leading in polls. A victory could signal crumbling of a stronghold.
The 50th state, where Democratic victories are virtually taken for granted and President Bush managed only 37% of the vote in 2000, may be on the verge of electing a Republican governor for the first time since 1962. If so, shock waves would be felt all the way to the mainland 2,500 miles away.

There have been several close elections on the islands, but the dem machine stole the elections from the pubs. The dem machine on the islands is incredibly corrupt. As are the labor unions- controlled by organized crime.

If we can make it there, we can make it anywhere.
I'm very hopeful for Hawaii. It was but one heartbreaking loss (among many) in 1998 for us, coming as agonizing close as Linda Lingle did in a year in which we got spanked hardcore nationwide.
I'm hopeful Lingle can tough it out and win in November this time.

Senator "In-No-Way" sexually assaulted his female barber several years ago...
Another big YAWN from the liberal media on that one....although Rush and G. Gordon Liddy used to have a spoof on it.

The June poll this article mentioned was conducted for the Honolulu Advertiser. It showed Lingle leading Hirono 47%-32%, with 21% undecided. Lingle led the other two prospective candidates by more than 25 points.
I've seen no other polls.
