Hitler was SELECTED by an elected official. President Hindenburg selected the leader of the largest party in Parliament to head up a coalition government. This was Hitler, and the Nazi party.

Any ideas what the corollaries to "gay voting for Republican = Jew voting for Hitler" are?
To: Lunatic Fringe
Hitler was not selected after the election. He was selected about six months later, after he had created chaos, and the ruling party coalition collapsed.
Here is the poop about the dateline. Sorry it is from a Commie site, but I am too lazy to find a more aesthetic one. The assertions on this matter are accurate.

When exactly did you educated grandfather-in-law discover that Hitler exposed anti-semitic prejudices and policies?

Call me cynical and suspicious, but I can't help but think that gays running for office on the Republican ticket are plants to add votes to Democrat agendas.
To: Lunatic Fringe
Well, I hope they don't mind people who don't believe in homosexuality! If they think the GOP is desparate for votes, they are in for an unpleasant surprise!
There's a party that suits their needs to a tee, (small gov't, pro-homo, anti-Christian on most issues). It's the Libertarians. Small government, and far more receptive to homos than the GOP ever will be. A match made in Hades.....

Well, Malcolm. We'll vote GOP if we want to. Sorry, you can't stop us. Maybe you'll just have to leave. Bye-bye.

Did you ever consider the possibility that it is at all possible that you have an unhealthy interest in the sex habits of others?

The Weimar Republic was a parliamentary system. Hitler was appointed chancellor as part of a coalition government. When Hindenberg died, Hitler simply combined the offices of President and Chancellor, and away he went...

That gets me interested in checking out Hitler's speeches pre late 1934. I suspect you will find it a sobering enlightenment. I will check out Scherer's (sp) book on Hitler from the library. Stay tuned.

Ya' got me.
But i have a lesbian niece who is fed up with all the lefty crap (with some of my help) and she's mad as hell that she's unable to carry a weapon in California!

Heck, there are significant numbers of Jewish Americans who are against the existence of the state of Israel. Large population groups are rarely homogeneous, especially when it comes to politics and preferences.
To: LarryLied
Typical ... if Republicans said anything half-offensive, they would be asked to resign, the news would be front-page in every major newspaper, and top stories on television.

Some anti communist jews did vote for Hitler figuring he'd be better for everyone including them then the communist( many figured he was only talking about Jewish refugees from Eastern Europe). Basically the Nazis and the communist ended up in that period as the "two parties" of Germany. They did not forsee the holocaust.

The Spartacist Berlin rising, Bela Kun's rampage and the
establishment of a Soviet republic in Bavaria scared the beejeezes out of many middle class Germans and Jews. That movement had a track record, fascism did not. Jews were doing fine under Italian fascism. With hyperinflation and the Republic crumbling there were not many good choices for anyone.
To: LarryLied
The middle class were generally enthusiastic supporters of Hitler the upper class supported him very reluctantly as the only person with popular support who could stop the communist. He did so of course at a terrible price.

That's how parliamentary governments work. Whoever is the leader of the party with the most elected members is head of the government. Hitler had to have been elected to the parliament in the first place to be chosen its leader. If he were not an elected representative, he would not have been in position to be leader. For example, Tony Blair is simply a member of the House of Commons, elected by the constituents in his district. Since Labor has the majority, he and all the other members of the House were eligible to be PM. He sought the leadership and was chosen by his party. But he was elected by his constituents in the first place.
In the case of coalitions, the party with the most members gets to be top dog (and its leader) but to get the necessary majority, they have to team up with some third or fourth party. But it would be very rare to have the leader of that little band be chosen to be leader of the country.
