A serial killer is lose in Lousiana and has, so far, killed three women.
A serial rapist is lose in Boston and has, so far, raped and beaten seven women.
Officials in Louisiana are on TV, encouraging women to purchase, learn to use, and carry firearms for self-defense.
Boston officials continue to prohibit women from carrying firearms for self-defense. Mace (tm) requires a rifle permit and has a 3-6 month wait.
LOL--that depends on whether one is from Louisiana or Massachusetts! Since I'm from Louisiana, I think it is VERY flattering.
I live in Louisiana, and frankly I also thought the article was flattering. Also, note that this nutcake down here will get caught or killed pretty quick, there's an awful lot of people carrying guns in LA!

Yep. But it's not entirely right---you can get a special "mace only" permit, and I believe you can get it quicker than you can get an FID (Firearms ID), which is shall-issue and gives you the "right" to own a long gun. But to get an LTC (license to carry) A (ability to carry) or B (just to own, not to carry) in the Commonwealth still requires a whole s-load of hoop-jumping. Mass. is not a shall-issue state. Even if you've got a clean record, the chief of police in your town can deny you an LTC of either varitey "cuz." No other reason is needed.
I'me sure you realize it's not type of gun that makes kickback, it's the caliber of the bullet. Bigger kicks harder. Any woman who is not just the most petite little thing should be able to fire a .38 or a 9mm with ease. Semi-auto will give you more shots, and if you have extra magazines you can reload a little faster than a revolver.

Here's an idea just as effective. Just tell the would be rapist there's a Boston Cream Pie in the kitchen!..that should work just fine, right? So, they aren't defenseless in Boston after all. (/sarcasm)
What a load. The politicians up there sound as bad as the criminals.

I would actually recommend a good quality semi-auto. Caliber .380 or 9mm. Practice, practice, practice.
As for matrons, my Mama's got a double barrel twelve guage- think of Granny on the old Beverly Hillbillys! I would not dare mess with her, and I don't worry about her taking care of herself at her house. She's got a cocker spaniel that goes nuts anytime he hears anything outside, and plenty of buckshot....:)
I would think that that would be incentive, not deterrence.
