FBI Leak Probe Irks Lawmakers (Many Spurn Polygraph Requests...)
The Washington Post ^ | Friday, August 2, 2002 | Dana Priest

FBI agents have questioned nearly all 37 members of the Senate and House intelligence committees and have asked many if they would be willing to submit to lie detector tests as part of a broad investigation into leaks of classified information related to the Sept. 11 attacks, according to officials involved in the inquiry.

Most of the lawmakers have told the FBI they would refuse a polygraph, citing the constitutional separation of powers between the legislative and executive branches of government and the unreliability of the exam, those involved in the inquiry said.

Although the chairmen of the intelligence committees, Sen. Bob Graham (D-Fla.) and Rep. Porter J. Goss (R-Fla.), asked the FBI to conduct the inquiry, its unprecedented scale has angered some lawmakers, according to people close to the investigation. The lawmakers are unhappy that the FBI, an agency they oversee, is investigating them.

Wouldn't this make a great America's Most Wanted show? I think this is going to be interesting. The FBI always gets their man (that they want to get)!

Imagine for one moment, you or I refusing to take an FBI polygraph test in a criminal leak involving a national security related matter...

When special forces soliders, who are trained to deal with enemy interrogators, testify under polygraph conditions that they missed the action at Waco, they had gotten too drunk and slept through it, and anyway hadn't heard that any shots were fired by government agents, that's proof enough for Congress right there that nothing sinister at Waco happened.

But when Congressional agents, who are politicians and not soldiers, and only know the lies they are used to telling to be reelected, are pressed to take polygraphs by reason of leaking classified information, they dismiss the requests and criticize the tests as being unreliable.

Double standard, anyone?

What's the point in proving that 37 politicians lie when we knew that anyways? And are not these the ultimate oxymorons:

Senate Intelligence and House Intelligence

(Many Spurn Polygraph Requests...)

Is there a reference list?

Which one, then, is the leaky member of the committee?

The polygraph is nonsense. The most sensible remark in its favor was Nixon's observation that "I don't know anything about lie detectors other than they scare the hell out of people".

If you're interested, you can download a free and fascinating 176 page book on beating the lie detector from this site.

I have never been so happy as to hear this report on our local ten o'clock news! Maybe, just maybe, the "leakers" will be found out in time to protect the men and women who are out there worldwide and in danger, eating dust and smelling camel dung. It just pisses me off that our military personnel are being compromised and placed in danger with leaks COMMING FROM OUR OWN CONGRESSMEN AND SENATORS! I pray the FBI buries these F$%&*@#!

Then you can take the polygraph over to the Pentagon and Rumsfeld's office and see how many of them agree to take it.

Oh I think a HUGE pay-per view market could be generated if this event ever were to occur. I wouldn't pay $10 to see the Stones but to watch a lie detector test of 37 legislators I would pay BIG!!!

I would pay even more to bid on questions to ask the buggers!!
