Osama's alive and itching to burn US - Report

July 30 2002 at 11:05AM

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda network plans a major anti-US attack, possibly in August, after which its leader will re-appear on television, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

The Saudi pan-Arab daily Asharq Al-Awsat, which on Monday reported that Bin Laden might have been killed or seriously injured in US raids on Afghanistan, quoted "sources linked to aides" of the Saudi-born Islamist militant via the Internet.

Bin Laden, Washington's main suspect in the September 11 terror attacks on the US last year, "is alive and will appear in a TV videotape after the operation is carried out to confirm that he is alive and will go on fighting America", the sources said.

They did not say whether the planned attack would target US forces in Afghanistan or elsewhere, but said it might be carried out in August.

'He is alive and will go on fighting America' Asharq Al-Awsat pointed to speculation that al-Qaeda might strike before the first anniversary of September 11.

The same newspaper had reported on Monday that Bin Laden's eldest son, Saad, had taken over the command of al-Qaeda "since the US offensive against al-Qaeda bases in Afghanistan", which began on October 7, and the organisation's pullout from its main hideouts in the country.

Quoting "informed sources", it said this disclosure "substantiates the theory that Bin Laden was killed or seriously wounded" in the US-led military campaign.

The sources cited by the paper on Tuesday said Bin Laden would, during his forthcoming TV appearance, speak of "al-Qaeda's success in containing the US attacks, reorganising on the basis of engaging in guerrilla warfare inside Afghanistan, and staging attacks against US interests in various countries".

Speculation about Bin Laden's fate has abounded since the US-led bombardment of al-Qaeda hideouts began.

'Attacks against US interests in various countries' Dale Watson, head of the FBI's anti-terrorist unit, said in mid-July that he believed Bin Laden was probably dead but added he had no evidence to support his contention. - Sapa-AFP

If Osama sets loose a bunch of "sleepers" to commit more mayhem in the USA, I just have this feeling that the American public will completely loose patience with anything Islamic in America. Which is a fairly gentle way of saying something far more ominous, of course.

Let's see, one day after a story in a Saudi paper implying that bin Laden is dead, we get a response from Al Qaeda sources talking to the same paper.

I'm sure there are terrorist attacks in the works. I'm also sure there's a video of bin Laden. Of course it will be a video from 2001 cut and pasted to look more current, because he's toast.

What in the he!! does this article say????!!?!?!

1) OBL is alive and well and going to do something in August and be on TV.

2) OBL was seriously injured OR KILLED in the raids. So he may not do #1.

3) OBL's son is taking over, because of #2, and this proves OBL is alive?!?!

GEEZE!! WHICHIZZIT??? I'm sorry but this article is schizophrenic.

In other words, the start of the North American Crusade. It won't be pretty for Muslims in America, ESPECIALLY unassimilated Muslims in America, if Osama strikes again. . .

All it will take is another 911-style large incidence, or a homicide bomber in a mall or daycare center, and The Religion of Peace(TM) will become "The Religion Torn to Pieces."

These Islamic fools and fanatics forget too easily what we did to that Thousand Year Reich...

Kinda like....He is either dead or alive.....in Afghanastan or some other country? But that wasn't schizophrenic?
Even if the goobermint had the body, they would never admit it. They need him (or his image) alive.

those crazy arabs and their threats. I guess they never heard the story of the boy who called wolf. If this is posturing, my guess, they are on their way to being laughingstocks. If it is true and thereis an attack, they are on their way to being much worse toast than they imagine. Either way, they lose.

Let 'em attack again & when Mecca is a parking lot before the sun comes up the next morning, I think they'll begin to see the big picture a little clearer.

That presupposes that the media will report such incidents accurately. My guess is that they'd describe such mayhem as "isolated incidents unconnected to any terror network, blah, blah."

They provoke us at their own peril.

There is no nation on Earth slower to wrath than America, but there is also no nation more terrible when aroused.

We went from being an isolationist, largely agrarian country into the fiercest war machine ever seen after Pearl Harbor, and drove Hitler's Reich and Imperial Japan into smoking rubble in merely a few years.

You saw those miners? That's the "real" America- a little rough, a little gritty, but hard as a diamond inside and tough as Monel metal.

That's really what it comes down to, doesn't it?

We have to have that kind of iron in the soul to make, and keep, such a promise. I'm willing.

More than Mecca, we have to be concerned about Saudi Arabia. They are the source of Bin Laden, after all, plus a majority of the suicide bombers. Iraq, Iran, Syria, Libya and Arafat's Palestine also have to go bye bye if we are attacked again. Do we have the cojones? One wonders...

Most likely that will be the case. Sad to say, but this was OBL's plan and desire, to turn this into an Anti Ilamic issue. We are, unfortunately fulfilling his dream and plan.

Asharq Al-Awsat

Perhaps this is Arabic for 'covering all the bases'. Or, more informally, "All your base are belong to us".

This all should have already happened, IMO.

I agree about the former not the latter IF we have the mettle to carry it out to its final conclusion.

The Saudi's are not our friends. Mayhap we should send a large pointy object hurtling towards their continent, and turn it into glass.

Osama's been reported alive so many times it makes one's head spin. It doesn't jibe with a report that his son's taken over Al Qaeda. If he really were alive I don't think he'd cede control to any one. Count him down as stiff Binnie.
