Bin Laden 'seen in Pakistan'
Financial Times (London)
WORLD NEWS; Pg. 4 By CHANNEL 4 NEWS
July 30, 2002, Tuesday USA Edition 2
LONDON
George Fernandes, India's defence minister, has "unimpeachable evidence" that Osama bin Laden is alive and "moving from place to place in Pakistan", he told Channel 4 News yesterday. Sightings were made three months ago but
"Frankly, it's typical of Mr George Fernandes to talk through his hat. This is a typical example of Indian propaganda which is meant just to discredit Pakistan."
|
that was "no reason to believe that the situation has changed", he told the British broadcaster. Asked whether President Pervez Musharraf knew of Mr bin Laden's where- abouts, Mr Fernandes said: "The Pakistani intelligence - the ISI - knows where he is. Gen Musharraf is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and the ISI reports to him. The ISI is capable of doing its own thing. I can't say therefore for certain whether Musharraf knows about the man."
Pakistan's military spokesman, Maj Gen Rashid Qureshi, said, however: "Frankly, it's typical of Mr George Fernandes to talk through his hat. This is a typical example of Indian propaganda which is meant just to discredit Pakistan." Channel 4 News, London

"If he's alive we'll get him, if he's dead we got him".

As far as I'm concerned, Osama bin Laden died on Dec. 5th of renal failure, and was buried in an unmarked grave in SE Afganistan on the 6th. I have yet to see any real evidence to show that he is still alive. And good riddance!

My guess is that he's either dead or
very ill. But to address this "seen
in Pakistan" story(& others like it),
why couldn't a Bin Laden stand-in be
deliberately seen there to prompt a
report such as this? Yes India could
be saying stuff to tweak the Paks, or
it could be a fake Osama as I opined.
