Anyone who is against nuclear power and the proposed ANWAR borings had better take a long hard look at this and ask themselves whether or not risking the lives of our fellow Americans is worth it.

That's a good point, but it may not be relevant here. I'm not certain of this, but I believe most of the coal that is mined in the Northeast is not used as fuel for utilities, but as a coking fuel for the steel industry. I can't imagine how oil or nuclear power could be put to such a use.
