This is incredible --- all day long, TV hung on every moment or movement. Rivera said they were going to stay with it until contact. Then what? They all went to stupid stuff.
And where were they all when the news came through? ON STUPID STUFF!
AND where did we all hear the news? HERE on FR.com!!!! I thank you Freepers who were alert to the latest!
I understand that the Governor wanted to talk with the families first, but when there was news pending, the TV pundits were nowhere to be seen.
At any rate -- the really important thing is that prayers have been answered and these men are on their way to freedom and will be soon reunited with their families.

Fox' coverage has been a disgraceI agree. I'm beginning to think that Fox News works a 5-day week. Nothing happens on the weekend... What happened to Geraldo? He was all over this earlier this evening.

After all we have been through in the last year, it has not weakened our faith... it has made it stronger! Praise God Almightly!

Is there any danger that this shaft that they will be bringing them back up thru...could collapse? NOT to borrow trouble...just curious. I haven't heard that addressed...as to the type of strata they were going thru and how stable it is.

The spokesman expressed concern about the drilled hole (its not lined), so they're being cautious and sending provisions down. There's also another bore hole close by just in case.
So far, the planning seems to be faultless. Impressive.

They just said there are 18 helicopters standing by medivac the miners should they need it. There are 9 miners. What am I missing? The governor wanted a helo for each of the men, and a back up helo for each one of those. Impressive leadership.

agreed
the point raised above re the hole itself is one to concern us till they're out, however. it is, after all, an unlined hole, and more prayers are needed ...

Thanks to everyone here on FR for keeping those of us without cable tv informed.
FR is the FIRST place I go to for news.
I was at work on September 11, 2001 and was able to keep up with what was going on by all the posts from the fine folks here.

I said I wasn't trying to borrow trouble......sorry.

This has really tugged at my heart for some reason and I praise God they are all alive and well... I can rest easy tonight and hope to awake to seeing all nine on tape being carried out of the hole...
To: Rebelbase
I was just curious why they need 18 helicopters to airlift 9 men. Keith in Iowa gave a good answer up in #324. Several reasons. Med Chopper crews are trauma experts. It may be their trauma skills on standby more than the chopper itself. There are rescuers workers there as well. It is normal protocol in many areas to have medical teams standby during resuce operations for the rescuers themself.
