Not necessarily. The Austrians didn't have a lot of luck against the Serbians when the war did get going. If I remember correctly, they had to be rescued by their big brothers the Germans, just as they did against the Italians.

Actually, A-H performance in WWI was remarkably similar to the Italian performance in WWII.

What a load of revisionist crock. Its the Kaiser's fault for giving Austria-Hungary a blank check. Austria then felt emboldened to escalate the conflict, and voila. Stupidity abounded on all sides, but Germany deserves the overwhelming bulk of the blame.
