USO Canteen FReeper Style....Liberty R&R to Arizona.... July 27,2002
FRiends of the USO Canteen FReeper Style and Snow Bunny

Posted on 07/27/2002 1:16:24 AM PDT by Snow Bunny

.

.

If you know a Veteran, someone in your family,
friend of the family, neighbor, who served their
country, take a brief moment of your day to thank them.
Thank them for the sacrifice they made
for the better good of their country.

We at Free Republic, and the USO Canteen FReeper Style,
are thankful for every service member
in our military, who has served our great nation.

So, to the men and women who answered the call,
in both times of war and peace, thank you.

.

Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.

This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style.
It is like a cottage down a road,
a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.

Since it opened, it is magical how so many
Freepers who post here, feel it too.
It has been so dear how the Freepers
kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place
that had a huge living room
for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.

Many Veterans have written to me,
saying that the Canteen is like home
to them for the first time since they served.

This is your Canteen -
a respite from our busy
and sometimes troubling world.
Make yourself at home.

CASUAL SATURDAY AT THE CANTEEN

Liberty commences at the beginning of today's
FReeper USO Canteen thread
and, depending on your division assignment,
expires when the new thread for Sunday is posted.

***** A special invitation to our troops and Veterans
to join us in today's cyber trip. *****

Arizona

Arizona from the splendor of the Grand Canyon to the multitude of wildflowers.

Our trip takes us to the Grand Canyon.......Anyone care to take an added trip down into this marvelous place?

Our next adventure happens when we get to......The Havasupai Indian Reservation is located in Havasu Canyon deep in the heart of Grand Canyon. Havasu Canyon is one of the over 600 side canyons together forming the 280-mile long Grand Canyon.

Home to towering waterfalls, beautiful cascades, and tropical blue-green pools this lush oasis is considered the "gem" of the Grand Canyon.

Beautiful Arizona landmark, Camelback Mountain

In a place called Sedona, there is something very mystical about this spot in Northeastern Arizona.

Sedona is unique in several respects. First is that it is relatively lush and seems rather out of place in a state better known for it's desert-like landscape. Secondly, Sedona has beautiful rich red rock formations that jet out of the sandy canyon floor, they look something like enormous sculptures against the azure sky.

Traveling over to Tucson where there are many things to see: ...Sabino Canyon, De Grazia Art Gallery, Seguaro National Monuments. But one of the stops we will take , is the Mission San Xavier.

Mission San Xavier del Blac

Thank you souris. I have made an improvement with my music. I was doing a Google search the other day for a song and found a nice wav site. These wav's don't take too long for my slow connection to load so I can preview and choose songs quickly at this new site.
I even made a request at this site the other day and was just informed via e-mail that the song is now available at the web-site. They'll probably hear from me again. LOL!

The whole state has it's own special kind (so many kinds) of beauty, it's hard to not see any no matter where you are!

We live 190 miles SE of Phoenix, just 15 miles north of Mexico at an elevation of about 5000' in the Upper Sonoran Desert.

Here's another feathered neighbor of mine, the Whitewing Dove. These birds are notoriously poor homebuilders. I came across a pair today that was nesting in a crevice between two rocks in my landscaping!

LOLOL!
YUP!
Walked to within fifty yards of me, turned his head and jabbed a horn right through his own heart!
I was as baffled as the man who owned the ranch where we were hunting mulies.
The way I figured it, he probably had a fight with his mate that morning and decided to end it all.
Some animals are dumb thata way.

Hi Victoria!
I caught your flag the other night, but I've been busy penetrating Mother Earth in search of hydrocarbons.
Good to see ya!

Several years ago in Calgary..went to the Spruce Meadows masters, a World invitation show jumping course competition.
My friend Catherine was dissapointed at first..as it had really rained..and the field was litteraly flooded.
yet some of the best show jumping I have ever seen occured.
We were at ground level..and could see the "Fire" in the horses eyes.
Horses are very aware that they are competing against other horses....and they show off when they do well ..you can see it in their body language.
Several horses were psyched out by the water..and simply refused to jump...others gave up after clipping 5 or 6 rails...the horse knows its having a bad day.

As each horse ran the course..the next horse and rider stand at a gate higher than the course on the periphery..and watch.
I watched as most of the horses seemed on edge by the weather..as they strode out they looked tenative as the rain fell.
A jet black horse from a historic "Spanish " stable in Mexico came next..the horse was magnificent with braided hair ..it strode out with its head held high..and no jitteryness about it.
We watched this horse...smaller than most..jump and move toward each obsticle with confidence
The crowd rose in its cheering as the horse neared the 3/4 mark..it appeared so sure or itself.
The horse ran the course with no faults..and afterward was prancing and bobbing its head.... drinking in the crowds praise.

There's something very "Regal" about horses...on this day....this horse was truly a King
To be more accurate.....A Queen!

Thanks for all the Arizona info. Very interesting for me. I remember a few things about your state but the biggest thing I remember was how hot it was there. We were asleep in the car and my parents pulled up to a diner. We all got out and when they opened the car door, it was like opening an oven door. I was 7 or 8 I think and I'll never forget it. LOL

Isn't ugly biker from Arizona? Is he around today? Yoohoo! Hello?
