JimRob and moderators, please forgive me, but I will ask a momentary waiver from the posting guidelines regarding profanity. Ron Borges is an asshole, pure and simple.

I'd say Borges has a bad case of Freudian penis envy. When he was circumsized, the doctors probably cut into his scalp by mistake.

Borges is an absolute IDIOT.
Not only is Lance Armstrong an excellent athlete, but he's as wise as any athlete I've seen interviewed in my lifetime.
There's a reason why these guys race bicycles in teams. The other guys on the team can draft and screen you from winning if you don't work together. So, in fact, there is someone in Armstrong's face while he's racing.
Last week, or the week before he was almost in an accident. Is this not athletic enough for this pinhead? This guy Borges probably couldn't even hike up the mountains that Armstrong raced up (and most of the other bikers crawled up) last week.
Give me a freeping break!

Dirtboy, a$$hole only starts off a full line of invective. I am personally in awe of my fellow Texan's endurance on a bike riding through the mountains, etc. Those riders are indeed athletic. Is Lance the best in the world? He is definitely the best in his field. I think this duffus that wrote the commentary is one of those individuals that never amounted to much in any field. Just my opinion, and I agree with yours.

"Great feat, but not a great athlete Armstrong winning Tour impressive, but its not athletic In the sportswriting trade, this is called "calling attention to yourself".
Write an opinion piece that challenges conventional wisdom, without adding anything to it. Be confrontational and contrarian.
Some sportswriters (and talk show hosts) believe it makes you look smart.
But, as you so aptly point out, it makes you look more like an asshole.
Remember the doofus from Philly who (loudly) refused to vote for Nolan Ryan's induction into the Hall of Fame a few years back, thereby denying Ryan a unanimous vote? It got the doofus a lot of attention -- face time on TV and voice time on talk radio. Which was exactly what he wanted for himself.
Jeez, I detest this type of writing -- which purports to be "all about Armstrong", but is really "all about me".
