King [of Jordan], Bush to discuss creation of Palestinian state - Muasher

King, Bush to discuss creation of Palestinian state — Muasher

AMMAN (JT) — His Majesty King Abdullah will discuss early next month with US President George W. Bush a timetable for creating a Palestinian state, Minister of Foreign Affairs Marwan Muasher said on Monday.

“His Majesty's visit to the United States ... will be devoted to the clarification of the plan of action that must start soon,” he was quoted by AFP as telling a press conference.

Muasher said Bush's “plan of action” should result in the end of the decades long Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the creation of a Palestinian state by 2005.

Bush called on June 24 for a Palestinian state within three years.

“We see the end of the Israeli occupation and the establishment of the Palestinian state by that time,” Muasher told the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

However, Bush conditioned US support on the Palestinians removing President Yasser Arafat from power, and major reforms of the Palestinian Authority.

The minister was speaking after meeting with Mahmoud Abbas, the number two in the Palestine Liberation Organisation.

Muasher added that King Abdullah is to stop in Paris to see French President Jacques Chirac on Aug. 2 on his way to Washington, and that the leaders will discuss ways of reviving the Middle East peace process.

Meanwhile, a source told The Jordan Times on Saturday that King Abdullah will also hold talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London after his meeting with Chirac.

The talks will focus on steps that can be taken to advance peace efforts in the Middle East.

“The focus of the talks will be on what can be done to help the Palestinians end their suffering in the short term and ensure the establishment of their viable state as the pillar of regional peace,” the source said.

He added that the King will leave for Washington from London.

Muasher briefed Abbas on the talks in Washington last week between Bush, himself and his Egyptian and Saudi counterparts.

The three ministers discussed the peace process with Bush last week after a meeting in New York with the international quartet on the Middle East comprising the US, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia.

“Minister Muasher conveyed to us the positive results [of the meetings with Bush and the quartet] which encourage the continuation of efforts with the US administration,” Abbas told Petra.

He voiced hopes that the Sunday meetings between Palestinian and Israeli officials would serve as a good start towards the end of the Israeli occupation.

Early next month? Look out for some catastrophy to happen here in America! Bush ought to know to stay away from negotiating anything for the PA (palestinian assasins).

I have said before, and it costs nothing to say again, that apart from Israel and Jordan, the West Bank is simply not viable as an independent entity.

There will never be an independent West Bank.

Where are its markets?

There are only two choices for the West Bank. Either Jordan agrees to administer it, or Israel must do so. Allowing it to exist as a lawless enclave simply guarantees that it will be ruled by outlaws.

Normal people cannot live in a land ruled by outlaws, and in fact, the normal people have either left long ago, or have simply learned to keep their heads down. But keeping your head down does not protect your children from being recruited by the pscho killers.

Since historically Jordan is Palestine, and Jordan is the inheritor of all Palestinian land not controlled by Israel, and since Jordanians are Palestinians, all the gallons of ink spilled in discussing the "creation" of a Palestinian homeland are wasted and fraudulent. There is already a Palestinian homeland, and it is called Jordan.

An email joke making the rounds:

The Saudi Ambassador to the UN has just finished giving a speech, and walks out into the lobby where he meets President Bush. They shake hands and as they walk the Saudi says, "I have just one question about what I have seen in America." President Bush says "Well your Excellency, anything I can do to help you, I will do."

The Saudi whispers "My son watches this show 'Star Trek', and in it there are Russians, and Blacks, and Asians, but never any Arabs. He is very upset. He doesn't understand why there are never any Arabs in Star Trek."

President Bush laughs and leans toward the Saudi, and whispers back, "That's because it takes place in the future...."

The idea of a Palestinian state living in peace beside Israel is a complete non-starter. It is a formula for the continued demonstration of Arab inferiority which is exactly what is behind the hatred of Israel. A feeling of helpless rage and envy growing out of Arab inability to function in the modern world and give up all their lunatic fantasies of another "final solution" is the problem. Establishing a state does nothing to change it, only creates a more secure base for terror.

Ah...but there's a difference between billing yourself as a "freedom fighter" to a gullible, left-polarized West, and committing an act of war against a neighboring country....which is exactly what it'll be IF the Palis can get their act together and actually succeed in creating a seperate state AND continue to attack Israelis.

I fear so. Man, I can't wait for the conservative George Bush to show us his wisdom in 2 to 4 years all these Bush supporters are telling us about. You know there's a master plan behind all this as to why he's caving in. And yes I voted for him, so I can complain about him!! Carter didn't even give the Palestinians a 'homeland'. What does it matter if Arafat is there or not? Does anyone with half a mind believe the next guy is going to be any better?

President Bush IS showing wisdom. King Abdullah has influence over the Arab world which the West does not...and he truly seems to want peace.

Carter is still in the picture, and he may be more involved in this than the Pres actually is (though have no documentation).

This is monsterous for this nation in its scope, if we force Israel to give up land...

Maybe the real purpose of the meeting is to arrange the details of Jordan's cooperation in the war against Iraq. As a reward, the King's uncle will be put on the throne of Iraq. Abdullah will be given whatever palestinian infested scraps of West Bank land that Isreal wants to give them out of what is now the PA's slice of the pie. The PA is dissolved. I can hope, can't I?

I would worry about how powerful this would make the Hashemites, but they at least seem more rational than their ancestor Mohammad, or most of his extant followers.

W is wrong on this one. Caving in to palestinian demands (aka the "terrorists" - not every Palestinian is bad) only rewards their efforts. That extremist policy will be exported worldwide and subvert any and all attempts at peaceful settlement efforts and political solutions.

Secondly, thumbing our collective nose at Israel (don't we defend ourselves?) only turns them against us as well. Way to go. ;o(

I would worry about how powerful this would make the Hashemites...

Hashemite Jordan, Hashemite Iraq II, Hashemite Mecca II... could be one of those deals where

Daniel 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.

About that uncle, it might cause a few problems if the wrong Hashemite is rewarded. It would be more tidy to just erase the little border between Iraq and Jordan.
