[history]
San Francisco -- San Francisco could become the first city in the nation to get into the pot-growing business to supply patients with medicinal marijuana, under a measure headed for the November ballot.
The measure would urge city officials to explore growing cannabis and distributing it to seriously ill patients who have an OK from their doctors -- in apparent defiance of federal law.

I'm just wondering what will happen when the DEA tries civil forfeiture on an entire city. Picture THAT auction, eh?
To: WindMinstrel
It's also the responsibility of city LEOs to protect city property. The raid could get interesting

Yeah, but I saw "COPS in San Francisco" a few weekends back. You really think SF cops would stand up to DEA/aTF thuggery? They'd grab their purses and mince away at a quick rate

That's it damnit!! I'm getting sick and moving to Frisco!

First I'll buy some beads
And then perhaps a leather band
To go around my head
Some feathers and bells
And a book of Indian lore
I will ask the Chamber Of Commerce
How to get to Haight Street
And smoke an awful lot of dope
I will wander around barefoot
I will have a psychedelic gleam in my eye at all times
I will love everyone
I will love the police as they kick the shit out of me on the street
I will sleep . . .
I will, I will go to a house
That's, that's what I will do
I will go to a house
Where there's a rock & roll band
'Cause the groups all live together
And I will join a rock & roll band
I will be their road manager
And I will stay there with them
And I will get the crabs
But I won't care
Because . . .

Hey now, Dirty Harry was a SF cop and I think he was pretty tough (for a movie guy that is). Really though, this is going to be interesting. I'm really wondering how far SF specifically, and Kali in general, are willing to go to protect their citizens from the fed thuggery that is surely to come down their way.

Hopefully, this will start a trend of more cities and localities revolting against the unconstitutional transgressions of the federal government.

I peed next to him once when I was stationed in Monterey. Not Dirty Harry, but Clint Eastwood. He scared me.

Hey! Hang on a minute! All the Drug Warriors here on FR keep telling us that "We the People" don't want pot to be decriminalized. Now we've got entire States voting, on referendum, to end at least part of the WOsD.
Were the Drug Warriors misinformed? Or just plain old lying to us?
My bets on the latter.
To: WindMinstrel
Probably good that you didn't pee on him..LOL

The S.F. Cops were a tough, no nonsense bunch of LEO's until the late '70's when political correctness, affirmative action including recruiting for "sexual preference" types and females who could never wrestle a perp to the ground became the order of the day. The results were predictable then and have followed the logical path.
The desirable recruits joined the Fire Department leaving the dregs for the P.D.

As a full supporter of the end of the WOD, and a full supporter of individual rights, I totally object to this measure.

Leno envisions growing cannabis on vacant city propertyIn a city so bereft of usable land that the only way
to get a parking space is to buy a parked car, the real scandal is
not raising cannabis on vacant city property, but
that the city has any vacant property at all!!

I think the city and the officals are trying to prove a point more than support growing their own, this would force the Gov't either to shut them down, or allow them to do it. either way it forces the issue.

I personally can not be favor of a law that 1)Allows the "government" to have such a power the citizens do not have, 2) That allows the government to be involved in the "legal dpspensing" of "illegal" drugs or 3) Fosters more socialism.
I know the point, but its still isn't right, IMHO. Maybe I should be satisfied with "winning" the battles anyway we can, but I just don't want to let the government(taxes) get involved.

I agree that we should limit the gubmint anyway we can,
although sometimes the ends do justify the means.....
If it was up to me having the gov't growing it, and controlling it, is better than having it illegal,...
That being said, I don't think the gubmint will ever get in the business of growing weed. I do know that if it is ever legal they will tax the hell out of it.....
which I guess could be seen as the same thing.
