A bomber drops a load of slurry Sunday on the Big Elk Fire near Estes Park. Bombers carrying fire retardant in Colorado encountered mechanical breakdowns, broken parts or other problems 28 times between April 1 and last Wednesday -- the day before a fatal air tanker crash. Officials are hoping that higher humidity and rain will continue to knock back the 4,000-acre blaze.
