Did they not give rise to the Scottish Rite side of Freemasonry?

Would you care to opine on any possible connection between the medieval Knights Templar and the current organization with same name [I belong to this].

The moral of the story is never loan money to the powerful. They usually find it easier to kill you rather then repay you. The kings of Europe were pulling these kinds of stunts on their Jewish bankers long before the Templars came along.

Just another example of the old strategy: demonize it, then take the money.
Kinda like what's happening to tobacco companies lately.

On October 13th, 1307, King Philip had all the Templars arrested on the grounds of heresy Bit of trivia. I believe this was a Friday, and therefore is the direct link to the Friday 13 superstition.

It would seem to me that the only time that I heard of The Knights Templar was in"The Maltese Falcon"!!Very interesting HISTORY READ!!!

Christianity eats its own for the 1 billionth time in history.

On October 13th, 1307, King Philip had all the Templars arrested on the grounds of heresy, since this was the only charge that would allow the seizing of their money and assets. The Templars were tortured and as a result, ridiculous confessions were given. The govenment misused the law as a tool for asset forfeiture? I'm glad that can't happen anymore. </sarcasm>

If you have an interest in bizarre mideval conspiracy theory (and who doesn't) do a google search on "Rennes le chateau"
The story never ends but find out about how Mary Magdelen became the mother of the French royal house

If you like Christian fiction,
Hidden in Time is about an archaeologist searching for the Ark of the Covenant using clues left by the Knights Templar.
I'd recommend reading Rift in Time first (discovery of the Garden of Eden and Noah's Ark) because Hidden in Time is a sequel to Rift.
It's fairly light reading - sort of like an British Indiana Jones. They were good beach reading.

I could be wrong but I believe that the knights also controlled the only source of amber in europe. That I believe is what pushed them into power among other things.

The betrayal of the Templars is referred to as the "cleaving of the elm" in 1307. It was with the plotting of the "Priory of Sion" that France wanted to rid themselves of the Templars. Many of the Knights escaped to England where they sided with Robert the Bruce in his battles. There are rumors of their headquarters being in Rosythe Scotland where a chapel is believed to contain their remains. THAT is were the Scottish Rite of the Freemasons takes it root.
There is also the building of several chruches and cathedrals that are attributed to the Templars and their mason roots.
