Linwood Rainey was beaten by inmates in the Hampton jail, police say. (Hampton-AP) -- Six inmates at the Hampton jail are charged with maiming after an inmate charged with sexually assaulting a four-year-old girl was stomped and beaten.

Police say inmates in the same cellblock attacked 42-year-old Linwood Rainey in a common area after one of them asked him if he was the man in the news for a sexual assault.

Rainey was charged with forcible sodomy on Friday.

Rainey was beaten on his face, head and back.

A jail spokeswoman says inmates charged with sexual offenses involving children are not automatically segregated from other inmates, but they are isolated if they ask to be placed in protective custody.

So many sexual preditors out there. While on my way to work, I heard this on the radio.

There is yet another guy locally, who molested some kids, he has a history of convictions for children molestion, yet, sickos like this are released to prey on the public.

Even normal criminals have SOME compassion for children.
I have heard that this sometimes happens when child molesters go to jail in the general population.

You know, this is a little hypocritical to be honest about it..

I can just imagine a murderer berating a drug dealer.. calling him a scum and a meanace.

LOL!

Hope he got to participate in a re-enactment.

Eugene Griffin will stand trial on child rape charges in Portsmouth. A Portsmouth man will be tried in September on charges of raping a three year old.

During his arraignment Tuesday, Griffin told a judge that he has no income and owns no property, so he was appointed a lawyer.

Prosector Earl Mobley wanted an August trial, but the court-appointed lawyer convinced the judge to wait until September, so he can learn more about this case and consult with Griffin's lawyer in Suffolk.

Griffin is charged in that city with abusing an 11-year-old girl and videotaping the act.

In Portsmouth, Griffin is charged with two counts of aggravated sexual battery, producing and possession of child pornography, object sexual penetration, indecent liberties with a child, abduction, rape and forcible sodomy.

Outside court, Griffin's stepbrother, who identified himself as Rick, told 13News that Griffin has been in this kind of trouble before in other states. "He's been real standoffish from the family because he's different, you know, so we don't know that much about him to be honest," he said.

"He's my brother, I love him ... but he needs help. He's a sick man."

Rick also said Griffin spent time in prison in Colorado. While 13News hasn't been able to confirm that, 13News did learn that Griffin was in prison in Kentucy from December, 1988 through March of 1992 for first degree sexual abuse.

Griffin remains in the city jail.

Investigations in Portsmouth and Suffolk are on-going.

It isn't quite hypocritical. Even criminal societies have some rules.
Molesting and or killing children goes beyond the pale. They will not suffer to be around such a monster and will kill him.
The bastard who was arrested today in CA for killing the Runion girl is a dead man walking from the second he gets to a large jailhouse.

I can just imagine a murderer berating a drug dealer

I read in (I think) Caryl Chessmann's book, Cell 2445, that each category of malfeasors has its own rationale for its actions, and looks down on all other categories of malfeasors.

What is so strange about that? The average murderer serves about 7-8 years in prison. A drug dealer gets life. I dont see a murderer berating a drug dealer as strange, since our society says that a murderer has committed a much much less serious offense than a drug dealer.

Like: First the punishment, then the trial?

Several years ago I met Pastor Roby Roberson, accused of turning his Wenatchee, WA church into a child-molestation ring. Tossed into jail, the guards did nothing when he was beat up.

Of course, he was subsequently acquitted, and by now I think every contested related conviction has been overturned. (I'm not sure about uncontested convictions.)

I just checked and amazingly, the story is still online at the Seattle P-I site here.

It's cases like his that point out the reason for administering punishment after a conviction obtained via due process.

The parole board should serve time with the convict

A long time ago, a child molester in custody had the other inmates "save" their medications. He O.D.'d on the collected drugs and was transported to the county hospital. The ambulance attendant upon learning that this guy had molested and killed a lot of kids made sure the driver knew who we were transporting.

All traffic laws were obeyed, and with red lights flashing, siren screaming we proceeded to the hospital at 10 mph. Unfortunately the child killer was pronounced dead on arrival. I won't say where it happened, but a lot of court time was saved.

You pioneered a new type of "early-release program".

With a guaranteed zero recidivism rate.

Commendable.

There is a definite prison heirarchy of crimes. At the top of prison social stucture is the professional theif- bank robbers, heist artists, break in specialists- career crimanls who have a set of rules and actually think of themselves as true "professionals" like lawyers and doctors. OFten they are Mafia or organized crime connected. They kill only when they "have too". Below them are drug dealers or gang bangers- below that is the non sexual "heat of the moment" criminal- a guy who killed someone in a drunken brawl. Rapists of women and killers of women are the next lowest group. Below this group are the child killers and rapists. In prison culture they cannot be tolerated and are always segregated from general population because they will be killed.

That was a witch-hunt from the get-go and the real perps were recognized as the zealot social workers and their poli-hacks in the prosecutors offices until exposed.

Apples and Oranges.
