You are correct, if he did leave the house, it would leave the children by themselves.

It still doesn't answer why, if it was DW that snuck into the house, how he did so without leaving a single TRACE of EVIDENCE.

You didn't just kill your family dog out of HATE/ANGER and have your child find it.

IF a child found this, might they run, anywhere, and not be in a state of mind to notice whether it is dark/light until they stop running?

What if Damon came home, or came inside after killing the dog, and when Danielle found out, he punished her? Or hit her? Might she run off ?

To that I don't have an answer. Others had suggested that the dog breeder be checked with to see if he had any late night dealings with Damon. I also would think that the boys would notice if it was a different 'LAYLA' ,but maybe not.

I wish I had the answer, and I am thinking about it.

It is, I believe, the only FLAW in this theory.

Ironic coincidence, the SEARCHERS at Dehesa Rd. did not find Danielle's body by the smell. They were attracted to the rotting carcass of a DOG that was nearby.

My kid probably wouldn't notice (at least not right away) if we replaced the dogs. Heck, we could probably even replace them with zebras and he wouldn't notice for a while.

Seems to me, though, that if the dog breeder had a late-night transaction with Damon and then learns that Damon's kid went missing the same night, the breeder would contact the police.

I think maybe I'm on your side of the fence now about a kid running away even in the dark if she's scared enough, but how did he replace the dog so fast?

And, yes, I know about the dead dog at Dehesa - definitely tends to support your theory.

I still think, though, that she may have gone missing much earlier in the evening than we have been told.

Pretty interesting theory. Aligns with the "bark/barkless" curiousity and explains to some extent why the van Dams gave out that "Damon kicked the dog" story.

But it's a real stretch.
