The recent barrage of congressional and media criticism directed at President Bush for his handling of the widening corporate financial scandal has failed to damage his popularity, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The survey found that Bush's job approval rating stands at 72 percent, virtually unchanged from a month ago. An equally large proportion of people still view the president as honest and trustworthy, despite recent news accounts that he benefited as a business executive from some of the same practices he now publicly criticizes.

The American people aren't going to pay attention to the mudslinging. We've got more important things to do.

And so do the Democrats. They may end up paying the price if they don't get on board.

Not really, the only reason he called it close, was because the RATS, him being one, KNEW of all the illegal votes that were going to take place ahead of time.

I am a bit concerned that maybe this post will be taken out of context. I have one odd chap that monitors my posts! LOL.

Strange how it works both ways with presidents. Bill Clinton was known to be "dishonest and untrustworthy, yet he remained president for eight long years. Of course, the press fought hard for his survival.

I think they may have reversed the numbers in the last question. I don't believe that more RATS think Bush is for the little people than do Republicans. Hmmmm?

Has there been any reported 'suicides' yet from the Washington Post headquarters?? ;)

Yeah several, but they aren't reporting them as it might bring attention to Bush's great numbers!

It should be noted that Bush gets higher marks of trust on corporations than Democrats in Congress according to the poll.

Furthermore, Bush's rating on being honest and trustworthy is almost 10 points higher than the last poll and is the highest it has EVER BEEN. He is hardly being buffeted by this.

Now, the GOP does need to worry because the people trust the Dems more than the GOP to fix the problem. It is good that they are going for tougher penalties.

In fact, more people view him as honest and trustworthy than in any poll taken since 1999.

No, Bush will not "wag the dog". He will be accused of it but even if he were that craven, I firmly believe Rumsfeld and Rice would resign in protest

Wagging the dog is when the President starts a war for no reason other than to deflect attention away from a public scandal, like Klintoon did when he killed thousands of innocent Christian serbians to put the Islamic Al-Queada ally KLA in power in Kosovo.

Bush will merely see to it that he times this war on Iraq better than his father did, who saw his 90% approval rating destroyed by the Democrats and the press well before his reeelection bid.

This will be of great concern come election time. Than of course while bush was fighting off those nasty RATS the pubbies were hiding under tables instead of defending our president! Chicken S***s!

Dan, The Zog arabs are not holding you captive up there are they? We all know that Michigan has been a long time haven for our middle eastern brethren. Let us know if you need relief.

I hope that people really wise up to the fact that the Dems are willing to sacrifice our present economy, only to make the GOP look bad.
If you are unemployed right now don't count on the Liberals to help you get back to work,, they would rather see you suffer a little more through November at least.

I don't disagree but the idea that the Dems are the ones to fix the problem can be a bad thing for holding onto the Congress..... President Bush hasn't shown/polled to have long coattails that I've seen. But then there aren't that many really competitive races it seems. Yet others say he is deserting the base.... So there are concerns above and beyond his popularity, imo.

No, it ought to read, "Public rejects Democrat mudslinging; 72% approve of Bush".
