"Windtalkers" Flops at the Box Office; Cost $145 Million to Make
Box Office Mojo ^

This crappy politically correct movie was one that MGM thought would do well.
from Box Office Mojo:

Production Budget: $115 million
Marketing Costs: $30 million
Est. Gross-to-Date: $30,610,000 (as of June 28)
The estimated gross has gone up to 38 million, a month later, but that's still pretty pathetic for a movie company that spent $115 million on production and $30 million on promotion.
I'm sure they thought that this would be one of those extremely successful war movies, but they didn't realize that the people who like whiny movies are not the type who like war movies. Liberals like the politically correct aspect of it, but there's not that many out there willing to go to the movie.
Here's a link from a review about how whiny the movie was: REVIEW: Windtalkers (C-)
And according to Yahoo News, "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. (MGM), citing the disappointing box-office performance of "Windtalkers," lowered its earnings forecasts for the second quarter and full year.
"The movie studio said Wednesday it expects to miss Wall Street views with a loss of 46 cents to 48 cents a share in the second quarter."

That's what they get for putting that weeny Nicholas Cage, the most pretentiously tough wimp in Hollywood, in a movie with a crappy screenplay and another weeny, Christian Slater.

I saw it,I liked it.

It wasn't all that bad. The weirdest thing was that Christian Slater looked like he had had an eyelift or Botox injections. I kid you not.

I thought it was horrible. Sections were so cliched and the dialogue so painful I literally couldn't watch.
An embarassment coming so soon after Saving Private Ryan, Blackhawk Down, and We Were Soldiers.
I can't figure out if it was better or worse than The Thin Red Line. I'm thinking worse. Pearl Harbor was clearly worse, though.

How does one say "Flop Movie" in Navajo? "Ugh!"
Or, "Pass the teepee."

Pearl Harbor doesn't deserve to be mentioned.

My roommate tortured me with
Hart's War yesterday. It very nearly made me sick. It is a typical, made-up BS hollywood movie written by cynical, little twerps with no knowledge or appreciation of the military. I believe they make these movies to keep us angry at one another and to undermine the institutions and beliefs that make this country so great.
Every white (except the main character) was racist and every G.I. was bathed in a negative light. Some of the Nazis received better treatment. Bruce Willis should be ashamed.
It makes my blood boil to think that this fictional story has validity.

As an aside, be forewarned that Al-yuck Baldwin does the voiceover in The Royal Tennenbaums. Besides that, it's also a terrible movie. Just trying to save people their hard-earned money.

I liked it, too.
A lot of what was in it was factual (one CodeTalker really was chained to a radiator for speaking Navajo as a child); unfortunately, Scooby Doo murdered Windtalkers the opening weekend. When I heard that on the radio, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What a country!

Great country where one totally stupid kids movie beats out a PC adult movie. But the fallout of this will be that the public no longer wants war movies. An incorrect assumption, but helps Hollywood justify its failures.

The Royal Tenenbaums was great movie. And Baldwin did a great job, but I still can't forgive him for his obnoxious comments.

Interesting. I had heard very little about this flick (which probably should have told me something right there...) except that the violence was incredibly realistic. Sad to read that it was just another pile of Hollywood Politically-Correct Barnyard Matter.

Adam Beach isn't Navajo or even an american he's canadian from the Ojibwa Nation.

First, you need to have a wispy flute as background music.
