Also, if the "official" endorsement says it's from the NRA, then it's the NATIONAL organization doing the endorsement, NOT the state affliate that probably knows the candidates better. State legislature races are usually done only by state organizations, but California has so many gun owners in U.S. than maybe the NRA decided to call some races.
For state races, always trust the state endorsement over the national organization. Locals know best. The state affliate of the NRA is the California Rifle and Pistol Association, Inc.
And indeed I would agree that pro-gun does NOT automatically equal conservative. There are some 'RATs who are conservative on guns but liberal on EVERYTHING ELSE. In fact, there are even some RINO Dixiecrat freepers who THINK they are conservative simply because they are pro-gun and hate the federal government. That's not conservativism, although it might be a small step in the right direction. However, bear in mind that the Black Panthers would be a "conservative" organization under such guidelines.
Check with other gun organizations. What one group says on one issue is not the end all, be all on whether the candidate is a good choice.
"It's the National Rifle Association, not the National Republican Association"
"It's the National Rifle Association, not the National Republican Association"
Its easy to make the mistake. It has seemingly been democratic policy to vilify the NRA while supporting anyone who decries the 2nd amendment. One of the catch phrases for democrats during campaign season is that their opponent is bought and paid for by the NRA gun nuts. On the Left Coast is seems that support from the NRA is the last thing a democrat would want.
I for one would like to see support of our Constitution become a nonpartisan issue.
