TORONTO, Jul 12, 02 (LSN.ca/CWNews.com) - Spokesmen for the abortion industry in Canada say they "fear" that World Youth Day pilgrims "will block access to abortion clinics." Hundreds of thousands of Catholic youths from around the world will gather in Toronto next week for World Youth Day with Pope John Paul II.
Carolyn Egan, with the Ontario Coalition for Abortion Clinics, says the term "direct action," used by some pro-lifers planning activities during the event, "means intimidation, harassment, and attempts to prevent women from gaining access to abortion clinics."
"We're very afraid," Egan claimed, "of what might happen."
Paul Tuns, editor of The Interim newspaper, says: "There are, to my knowledge, pro-life individuals hoping to have legal, peaceful demonstrations outside the bubble zones of abortuaries in Toronto. What these pro-abortion groups oppose is anyone ever daring to speak out against abortion. In fact, they are trying to intimidate pilgrims into not exercising their freedom of expression."
Toronto Right to Life spokesman Natalie Hudson said her group has no plans to "obstruct" abortion clinics, in the vicinity of which Ontario's bubble zones suppress the exercise of freedom of speech by making it illegal to protest outside the door, noting: "We're not going to break any laws or anything."
Hilary White, a spokesman for Campaign Life Coalition, said, "Our protests usually consist of standing on the other side of the street from a clinic and praying."

My son is going to be there for the full week. About 51 young folks and chaperones from the Diocese of Greensburg, Pa. are attending. Please keep them and all the pilgrims in your prayers.

Funny how the left is so affraid for law-abiding protesters and kids praying on the sidewalk. But when an Eart First group invades an office building in Portland, OR. Disrupts everything. They get away with a slap on the wrist and they are portrayed as heros in the press and given every opportunity to state their cause in front of the cameras.
Funny how that is...if it wasn't so sad.

I share your pain Ms. Egan. The big difference is that I know what goes on inside abortion mills and it sickens me.
So keep up the "we're frightened and we're victims" propaganda........it won't hold water anymore.

About 3 years ago, I participated in my one and only march/protest against abortion. After Mass, Cardinal George of Chicago lead a group of approximately 1000 people on a 1/2 mile walk to a nearby abortion mill. We prayed the rosary while we walked and finished while in front of the mill. The march lasted approximately 2 hours.
I support and keep active in the pro-life movement, but I have not participated in this kind of march/protest since. I can still see the counter protestors with their blasphemous signs and hear their voices chanting, "keep your rosaries off our ovaries" said over, and over, and over again while we prayed.
I am not a violent person, and besides there were mounted police and undercover cops all over the place, but I felt a very strong urge to beat the hell out of as many of these jerks as I could. Before the march, we were instructed by the Cardinal to say nothing to anyone but to continue to pray the rosary regardless of what was said to us. As far as I could tell, everyone followed orders.
Evil was present and manifested itself in the contorted faces, blasphemous signs, and shrill taunting that occurred on that summer day. For personal reasons, I will not march again, but I would not criticize anyone else participating in a peaceful/legal pro-life protest.

Note to Canadians,
Along with property rights, YOU HAVE NO FREE SPEECH RIGHTS.

I am not a violent person Most of us who are pro life, are not violent. What is evident at a rally, however, is "fear". Pro lifers fear for the woman and unborn child ... we know the psychological and physical damage that will occur. The pro abortion group fears the loss of choice.
It's a lose/lose situation, for all concerned. My heart goes out to you for the strength of character you showed by walking and praying with your bishop that day.

"abortuaries"
I like this term.. Much better than "Health clinic" or the like.

God send a million million angels to Toronto. And have them set up an invisible wall of protection so that those individuals seeking abortions could not penetrate it, or the staff of the abortion clinic might not penetrate it.

Yes and they don't even realize they are biased.
