Suicide hasn't been ruled out as a motive for an Irvine man's Fourth of July outburst that left him and two others dead.

In the year before he gunned down two people and injured three others at Los Angeles International Airport on July 4, Irvine limousine driver Hesham Mohamed Hadayet told a client that he was nearly broke and needed money.

Haven't the Islamist websites been calling for "freelancers" the world over to rise up against the US and Israel (and Western civilization in general)? What's the difference if he was a freelancer? He's still a terrorist. I am way past the point of annoyance that our "authorities" refuse to call him one.

One more reason to target El-Al--when martyrdom is what you seek, you have to die. Sure, he could have shot up a synagogue if he'd wanted to kill more people, but there would be no certainty of meeting an armed response (particularly not in California). The point wasn't to get away with it, but to die as a martyr. To die in the "right" way, the way the Jihadists would approve, and to set that example for others.

Why the airport? The El Al check-in desk is one place in the world that you could definetly find Jews to kill.

His goal was to kill Jews, not "anyone at all." This nut was specifically out to kill Jews. He could find them easily at the El Al desk, so he went to the El Al desk.

It's a very high profile target, and a relative of Shimon Peres was nearby at the time. The only thing these terrorists love to do more than kill Jews, is to kill well-known Jews.

Are you getting the message yet? He was a terrorist who was out to kill Jews. Say it to yourself a few times.

Is this a good time to add that the act tied up air traffic, ground traffic, business, and a few thousand lives for most of a day?

That even killing two people at an El Al ticket counter would have economic impact on El Al and thus on Israel?

That disrupting US air transport might include scaring more people away from air travel?

That the average muslim probably believes that Americans can be made to avoid Jews and their businesses if they sense a threat of random violence toward them?

Also, I had not previously considered the possibility that his family could quietly collect a bonus for the killings since they are conveniently outside our grasp. Willing to bet mama don't return to the USA and it would be interesting to learn how much of any value had been left behind when she went on 'vacation'.

Finally, someone indicated wonder about terrorist links growing into Egypt.
Regardless of the policies or intentions of the Egyptian government, sentiment within the populace includes a good deal of support to the bad-guys. Check out some of the 9/11 personalities and many of the current detainees...Egypt is a common source.

I find it puzzling that many freepers seem to be saying "It's terrorism, so we don't need to conduct an investigation". Surely it should be obvious that we do in fact need to conduct an investigation, and the best investigations are done with an open mind. Even if it seems obvious this was a terrorist attack, we still need to collect and evaluate all the evidence we have. So let's give the investigators a bit of slack here.

That being said, LarryLied's contention that this isn't an organized attack seems a bit silly. I think it's worth noting that this was an attack on LAX. As you probably remember, we managed to foil an earlier attack on LAX on new years day (was it 2000 or 2001? Not important for now).

These people tend to pick a target and obsess over it. Consider the World Trade Center - there was an attack in 1993 that only wounded it, and then it collapsed in 2001. Now we have a second attack on LAX, on a highly symbolic date.

There's no doubt that the quality and professionalism of their attacks has all but collapsed since September 11th. Just compare the shoe bomber with Mohammed Atta and you'll get the idea.

If you look at it that way, then this attack fits very nicely into a far less effective post 11 September Al Queda - individual attackers trying in their clumsy, pathetic way to make a difference.

I think that was supposed to be an example of how was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy.

But, he was the merchant, not the consumer. When the company holding the credit card certified that the charges were fraudulent, the credit card company simply issued a chargeback against his account (deducting it from money he hadn't yet received).

The credit card company protects the merchant from people who can't pay -- they assume the risk of extending credit to the consumer and charge the merchant 1%-5% for the service. But, that doesn't protect the merchant from fraudulent use.

I think this murdering bastard was a probe, and I expect the evil demons in the sleeper cell who gave him the ok to do what he did now have on video tape, complete with aerial views, a pretty good idea of what happens during an evacuation of that terminal, where the crowd goes, how the security responds.

The next hit at the airport will take advantage of this information, and not be so small scale.

Originally, his widow claimed it was El Al Airlines that owed him money (as if the Israeli airline had deliberately hired an Arabic chauffeur) but now we find out it was a completely unrelated business that owed him money.

It is possible that Hadayet was willing to die in a suicidal attack in the hope, or expectation, that his widow would get the enormous bounty that Saddam, et al., are paying to families of suicide bombers.

In any case, Hadayet had to pass by the counters for Lufthansa, Aeoflot, and several other foreign airlines before he got to the airport's one Israeli counter and opened fire. How could that possibly indicate a terrorist motive?!

Was thinking the same thing. I believe the woman who ran this company paid off this Egyptian sleeze because she felt threatened. He bugged her continually for the money he though was rightfully his. She should have called the police or FBI.
