Martin Luther translated the first great German Bible and turned Germany from a bunch of pagan barbarians into one of the great Christian civilizations of history Actually, no slight credit should go to Bonifatius (who's that?!)and the sanction of Charlemagne himself, who had no church to post theses on but did have the pagan shrine at Irmensul to slash and burn.
