He does have a problem that would not exist if Microsoft had put a "Do not ask me again" check box on the popup form. I have to use IE at work, and this annoys me as well. You should only have to say NO once.

Mozilla is how I solve this problem at home.

There's also a pretty funny exchange on the Troubled by being short? thread, between peteram and me, starting at #5.

I don't understand why JimVT thinks that's irrelevant. There are plenty of short people and drinkers on FR, aren't there? ;-)

I think Jim misunderstands the difference between posting a thread and posting a reply on a thread. But he can sure correct me if I'm wrong about that.

< Has anyone found a solution to the insidious ads that keep popping up on some web sites practically demanding that one install "Macromedia", or "Shockwave" or Flash Player"? >

I found freerepublic.com because I was doing a web search on 'stop macromedia'. I was amazed at the apathy of most of the replies to this thread. 'Just install it, quit whining, you'll miss out on all the cool advertisments flying all over the screen!'

You see, I too absolutely hate being constantly harassed about it. Those that say to just quit going to those sites are the most dim whitted of all. Which hyperlinks say what is going to try to autoinstall a program on your machine? And the guy that said to disable the install on demand in IE settings, do you test out your answers before you show your ignorance? That doesn't work, dude...And the other reply that said to uninstall flash in the 'add remove programs', how is that going to keep it from harassing you 2 or 3 times per page?

JimVT, you are a good man for putting up with all this abuse! And to show my appreciation, I'm going to cut loose with my 'not so great but answers your question at least' personal workaround for this asinine program called flash. Find out where your host file lives on your system, (it's different on different OSs), and add the line:

127.0.0.1 download.macromedia.com

Save the host file, then restart IE. Pages will take longer to load if they call for flash, but you won't get harassed about installing a piece of crap software so you can watch flying commercials, or even someones idiotic Inaugeral Ball presentation...And you don't have to get hit with a pie in the face, or even someone's thoughtless reply.

And yes the freeware popup stopper from panicware.com is worth it's bytes in gold!

Hold the flamejobs for a sec, I gotta get my fireproof shorts on...OK, go to it! Flame on!
