Black Congresswoman Charges White Media Conspiracy Backs Bush
Newsmax.com ^ | July 11, 2002 | Carl Limbacher

A conspiracy of white media organizations has encouraged President Bush to ignore minorities and their concerns, including the fact that black Americans were disenfranchised in Florida during the 2000 presidential election, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, charged Thursday night.

"It's there to encourage Mr. Bush in his virtual ignoring of the needs of minorities in this country," Johnson told Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor." "And most especially in that state where he came from," she added.

Johnson leveled the white media conspiracy allegation while charging that Bush Attorney General John Ashcroft had deprived Americans of their rights in a wholesale fashion:

O'REILLY: What rights have I lost - or have you lost?

JOHNSON: You probably have not lost any because you're a white male. But minorities have lost a great deal. And they're taking ...

O'REILLY: Like what?

JOHNSON: Well, we didn't even have the right to have our votes counted the last time in Florida and all over the country. We have a president who was selected ...

O'REILLY: But all the press organizations who went down there say that's not true. You know, the independent press organizations like the Miami Herald, USA Today, those - they went down there and said, "Hey, there is no ..."

JOHNSON: How many of those were represented by minorities?

O'REILLY: I don't know of any black papers that went down. But do you think there's a conspiracy in the white press to suppress the black vote?

JOHNSON: Oh, indeed, yes. Not to suppress the vote. But it's there to encourage Mr. Bush in his virtual ignoring of the needs of minorities in this country. And most especially in the state where he came from. (End of Excerpt)

The whining of blacks is more and more falling on deaf ears. What are the special attentions they need or deserve? There are enough laws on the books to protect their rights, like the hate crime laws that don't protect whites from attacks by "minorities".

You took the words right out of my mouth! Then again, these quotes sound like something Rep. Sheila "Acornhead" Jackson-Lee would have said too!

LOL! It was one of those bets to myself, as in, "this has GOT to be Cynthia McKinney." When I found out it was Johnson, I said, "Oh, rats, I owe myself $5."

I believe it was in 1998 that Eddie Bernice Johnson was certified as an idiot.

There is a state rep that makes Johnson and Sheila Jackson-Lee look smart. Her name is Safronia Thompson and she thinks she is really important.

The dame old winners just keep recycling and complaining about things that don't make sense. How do they make it on TV?

I don't understand why anyone like O'Reilly would give her a forum. Let the increasingly irrelevant CNN have all the kooks.

They do not seem to want to be "A" minority, they want to be THE minority. What I see her as saying is all the important "Black" (oh, Excuse me, African American)issues must be solved first and they have no responsibility to be literate or practice safe sex anywhere in the world, and this is GWB's (and my) fault as I am a white male. A recent report says Africa is dying, and I say it is by their own hand not a White Conspiracy.

I saw this. Rep. Johnson, D-Texas, was even more stupid than McKinney.

Attorney General John Ashcroft had deprived Americans of their rights in a wholesale fashion:

Good Lord. The "right" to drive, the "right" to free health care, the "right" never to be offended and now the "right" to fashion??????

I'm amazed at how self centered "Americans" can get.

oh, HER! I wonder how she's going to greet Artur Davis, the guy who beat Earl Hilliard, when he shows up. Hilliard was very pro-Arab, pro-Palie. Davis is not.

I missed some of O'Reilly trying to coax the dog outside for a walk. He's still recovering from the firecrackers of the 4th (and 5th, 6th, 7th & 8th). Had I seen her spout this babble, I would've found soft things to throw at the tube (I learned my lesson through eight years of Clinton).

Well, we didn't even have the right to have our votes counted the last time in Florida

Someone should inform this person that at that time, Ashcroft wasn't AG. Mr Reno was.

When that district was created because of population increase, Eddie Bernice was heavily involved in the gerry mandering process. The district was created for her.

...Mr. Bush in his virtual ignoring of the needs of minorities in this country

What will they think of next? Maybe I'm being idealistic, but why does she think the "needs" of minorities are different than the "needs" of the majority? Like it or not, lady...no matter what color/sex you are, you are an American. That's what Mr. Bush cares about.

Add that to the fact that the loony toon blacks get on all the talk shows claiming that Bush, and all conservatives, are trying to lynch them, poison them, etc. Who wants to deal with a bunch of nutcases like that? It's a travesty that this nutty cow was given a serious forum on which to spew such idiot notions. Let her go on Carville's show. Nobody takes that seriously.

JOHNSON: Well, we didn't even have the right to have our votes counted the last time in Florida and all over the country. We have a president who was selected ...

The votes were counted and counted and counted and counted. Don't go blaming Bush because of a group of people who are too stupid to cast a ballot.
