12:57PM Halliburton responds to Judicial Watch lawsuit (HAL) by Michael Baron Halliburton (HAL) is off 30 cents, or 2.1 percent, to $13.82, in midday action. The company is out with a press release responding to a lawsuit filed by Judicial Watch, a Washington, D.C.-based legal watchdog group. The suit alleges fraudulent accounting practices at Halliburton took place during the period when current vice president Dick Cheney served as its chairman and CEO. Halliburton called the claims in the suit, "untrue, unsupported, and unfounded." The company continued: "We are working diligently with the SEC to resolve its questions regarding the company's accounting procedures. Halliburton has always followed and will continue to follow guidelines established by the SEC and GAAP, General Accepted Accounting Principles."
Do you think that FDR did the right thing in 33?
1) the purpose of the IRS is to collect the proper amount of tax revenues at the least cost to the public, and in a manner that warrants the highest degree of public confidence in our integrity, efficiency and fairness. To achieve that purpose, we will: encourage and achieve the highest possible degree of voluntary compliance.....
No, of course I don't think that FDR did the right thing. How could you even think I would ?
I was correct, your tinfoil is wrapped waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tight.
From the IRS Internal Revenue Manual- Adminstration Vol. 4
The Role: The mission of the Internal Revenue Service is to encourage and achieve the highest possible degree of voluntary compliance...... From IRS tax Form 1040 EZ 1991
Dear Taxpayer:
I thank each of you reading this letter for doing your part to keep our tax system the finest inthe world. It works well because so many of you do your best to pay your fair share. As countries around the world embrace our way of life, it is a reminder that government in a free country can only be financed through voluntary compliance and the suppoort of the public it serves. "Our tax system is based on individual self-assessment and voluntary compliance". Mortimer Caplin, Internal Revenue Audit Manual (1975)
"Fear is the key element for the IRS in achieving its mission. Without fear, the IRS would have a difficult time maintaining our so-called system of voluntarycompliance..." "Given the opportunity, the IRS will take the easy way out and grab whatever it can...the IRS does not really care about you and what your future...may be". Samto Presti, former IRS Criminal Investigation Agent and author of "IRS in Action" From Form 1040 of 1993
Dear Taxpayer:
"Thank you for making this nation's tax system the most effective system of voluntary compliance in the world........." by Former Commissioner of Internal Revenue Margaret Milner Richardson
GO AHEAD AND TRY TO NOT PAY YOUR ONCOME TAX ! Those who propose that, wind up in jail . If you ARE paying it, then you're a hypocrite. If you aren't, you're a fool and part of the problem. :-)
If you're looking for a flame war, dear, you're SOL. LOL
So are you saying that you know something about Title 26? And if so could you expand on the voluntary v. mandatory nature of federal income taxes?
What... now I have to spoon feed you ? Wake up, dear. :-)
It would seem that if the system was fixed then we wouldn't have a choice as to how we pay.
For example, your property tax assessment comes to you in the form of a bill. No voluntary compliance, just pay it or move.
