Explosion at Chicago water filtration plant
WBBM - AM Radio | 7/10/02 | Local news

Posted on 07/10/2002 7:55:17 AM PDT by NotJustAnotherPrettyFace

As I was pulling into the driveway after running errands this morning, I just heard the news on the local all-news, all-the-time radio station in Chicago, that there's been an explosion at the water filtration plant in Chicago, and that many emergency vehicles were being dispatched to the site. Nothing more at this immediate time, but it's being treated as a very serious event.

My apologies - the radio station call letters should have been WBBM, not WMAQ, as the source for where I heard this news announcement.

No problem. Water blows up all the time. Move along and let your government handle it.

Yes, but chemicals stored at high pressures and handled by morons does.

Water does not blow up, but generators do, hope that's all it is.

Another isolated incident.

It might have been a hate crime, though, because we do know that dynamite has 'issues', deep personal issues, with concrete.

Turn on the shower....

IF water now blows up, this is going to provide a real problem for us "shower takers" during airport threads..

ROFL! We should make that an official FR classification system. Instead of code red or yellow or orange, or whatever, I propose the Free Republic "pucker factor" to determine how panicked we should be. You know, like a barf alert. Good idea, no?

He says a contractor working with a torch apparently ignited propane and caused an explosion. That worker and another have been taken to a hospital, both with minor injuries.
