The board called his crimes "atrocious" and noted Berkowitz recently wrote to Gov. George Pataki saying he deserved to be in prison for the rest of his life.

How do you get a parole hearing when you don't want to be paroled? I just read an article about a month ago quoting him as saying he would not accept parole. Are parole hearings "automatic"?

If parole is legally possible, yes. However "life without parole" is a possible sentence. IIRC, Berkowitz got "20 to life".

the book, "The Ultimate Evil" by Maury Terry. with all the very strange killings lately I have thought more and more of rereading this one a little more carefully - seems to me that human sacrifice was very much a big part of this groups actions - also whatever happened to the "old man"'s son and daughter?, one stationed in Minot Nebraska if I'm not mistaken

Have you heard or read anything about Berkowitz's connections to Robert Maplethorpe, the gay photographer? I remember hearing that Berkowitz said that he shot those people so that Maplethorpe could photograph them being shot. Haven't heard anything about that in years though.
