ALGIERS (Reuters) - The al Qaeda network will strike U.S. targets in America and around the world soon, an al Qaeda spokesman said in an interview published Tuesday.
"Our military and intelligence networks are assessing and monitoring new U.S. targets that we will strike in a period of time which is not long," spokesman Sulaiman bu Ghaith told the Algerian Arabic daily newspaper El Youm.
The United States blames Saudi-born Islamic militant Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda for the Sept. 11 hijacked plane attacks on New York and Washington that killed more than 3,000 people.
"Our suicide militants are ready and impatient to carry out attacks against U.S. and Jewish targets inside (America) and abroad," the spokesman added.
El Youm director told Reuters the newspaper received on Monday by e-mail taped answers to questions that had been sent Sunday to al Qaeda's Internet Web site. Bu Ghaith warned America to "fasten its seat belts" because his organization "will hit, with God's willing, from where they will not expect."
"America knows we are men of action and not men of words," he went on, saying that attacks were also being planned against the "puppet government" of Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Bu Ghaith, in a tape aired last month by Qatar-based al Jazeera television, said al Qaeda was behind a suicide attack on a Tunisian synagogue in April that killed 21 people, including 14 German tourists.
He told El Youm that Washington's war on terrorism since Sept. 11 had not affected al Qaeda's military, intelligence, economic and information infrastructures and reiterated that bin Laden was going about his work.
A spokesman for international forces hunting al Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan has dismissed as "wishful thinking" such claims that the network is still virtually intact.
I agree with you 100%. I believe there will be another attack. Besides keeping my eyes open, what do you suggest I do about it? Will worrying help? Let me tell you where I live. I live in SE Pennsylvania. The mall, Plymouth Meeting, was mentioned for the terrorist/jewelry store connection. That mall is about 5 minutes from where I live. Now for where I work.... I work close enough to Limerick nuclear power plant to hear their monthly testing of their alarms. Limerick was recently in the news for their horrible lack of security. I was VERY CLOSE to that plant last month in a wooded area. I can tell you that I saw no security. A man drove a covered pick-up truck past us in that area and if he was up to no good, I would be glowing toast right now (there was no one there to stop him. Beautiful view from a high ridge). Several small planes were flying around too.
So, I could sit home all day and worry myself silly, or I can accept the fact that this is the way life is going to be from now on and go on with my life. I have "nuke" pills and some water stored. What else can I do?

Ever read the newspaper, listen to the radio or watch T.V.? How many attempts have there been to date that have resulted in the arrests of would be terrorists? Just last month one of them was arrested for plotting to attack a target in the U.S. with a "dirty nuke!" It's not a matter of if an attack will occur- it's a matter of when!! Have you been living in a snow cave in the Arctic circle all this time?
So far only few Arab terrorist organizations have shown an interest in hitting US targets. Even less have attacked on US soil. It's not even as if the combined might of all Islamic terrorist organizations were directed against us.
The terrorists' war against us is one of the weakest campaigns any enemy has fought against us. It does not pose a danger to the majority of the US population, it does not pose a danger to US interests, it does not pose a danger to the existance of this country. Germany, Japan, Communism and the Crown on the other hand did, and life was appropriately changed to meet appropriate challenges.
I will make the small changes in my life to help bring this nation's security up to the point where it SHOULD be. A level of security that would've stopped 9/11. I will NOT change my life to meet boogeyman who have been blown out of all proportions.
This comment amazes me! There have been several posts here on Free Republic about the stated intentions of various radical Muslim groups of attacking targets in the U.S. and Israel. Are you a newcomer to Free Republic?
I'm sure they can walk into a Sbarro pizza and blow themselves up though.
